checking with with September surgeries
I had my surgery on Sept 4th the first two weeks i thought everything was ok and i ended having a second surgery for a bowel obstruction. Since then i feel miserable. I had to go back to the hospital on Oct 2nd because i was thorwing up I got released on Oct 5th and all this weekend out of the three meals i have to eat one I end up throwing it back out . Now i been feeling pain right under my left breast I guess that is where my new stomach or old stomach is. I have lost 34 pounds but i'm so unhappy. I can't drink all my water ,If i drink 10 oz of water a day I'm lucky. The protein drinks are also not staying in. I tried the isopure before surgery and had no problems ,now I can't even keep 2 oz down. I see my doctor tomorrow and he had already told me that I had some adhesions in my intestines and I know he's going to possibly do a third surgery. I feel like this was the biggest mistake of my life and wish I could reverse it. I have no energy of course , I go to a store pick up what I need and leave since I get tired and dizzy . I can't even drive yet. I don't know what else to do or to try to get my protein and get more water in. I'm so discouraged right now.

Holly: Thank you for the kind words. My sister passed away early Sunday morning and her funeral was on Tuesday. It's been a very emotional time, but we are happy that her suffering is over. I have lost track of what I am supposed to be doing for myself, but will soon get back on track with planning and recordkeeping. I go back to work for half days starting on Monday, so I need to get some type of routine worked up!
Saw my surgery team on Wednesday and despite all else that is happening, they are happy with my progress. They assured me that although I am not at optimum intake for protein, calories, and fluids, the range I am in is not considered unhealthy (yet!). I have a medical background, so I do know the things to watch for that can stem from missing out on the things that are important to my diet right now. I went ahead and started on B12 dots and calcium citrate chews, which is a decision they supported. Normally their plan is to start on the supplements at 6 weeks out, where I am only 4.
How are things going for you? I believe we had our surgery the same day (9/13).
Take care and thanks again for touching base with me. It meant a lot!

Hi Holly AND all of my fellow Septemeber surgery people
I had an open RNY on September 18th. Aside from the expected pain the first few days, I'm thrilled with how I feel and how things are progressing. At my first post surgical visit (10 days after) I had lost 10 lbs. I have my one month follow-up tomorrow and since my scales at home aren't anything close to reliable, I have no idea what my weight is right now. I've got my fingers crossed and I will repost tomorrow afternoon with an update of my total loss for the first month.
By the way, I chose the open rather than the lap because I was self-pay. The open was $3,500.00 cheaper and since the incision really isn't all that big (around 4 inches..maybe a tad longer), I am just as happy with my choice. And my bank account appreciated my choice as well.
I wish you all good luck, good health, and a safe, satisfying and comfortable rate of weight loss!
Hello All,
New to this board. Well I had my Lap RNY on 9-19-07 my surgery was on a Wednesday and I left on Friday. The first night of surgery I was up and walking around the hospital. In the hospital everything was fine but once I got home, another story (but not too bad). The first week after surgery was probably my worst, I felt nauseased all the time, it was hard to get my water in and I didn't feel like eating anything and I was so weak I felt so light headed all the time. Well, to find out what happened to me was that I was so dehydrated. Once I started making an effort of getting a majority of water into me, it was much better. I went back to work after 3 weeks and was a whole new person. Oh, one thing I have experienced is the frothing...yuck just gross, when you swallow a bite that was alittle too big and it stuck right there; it just feels awful to where I would have to force myself to purge. I've been doing much much better and can't wait to see what next month brings.

Good morning everyone! I had surgery Sept 11th and ended up in the hospital for 11 very long days! Part of my lung collapsed during surgery so I ended up coming home with oxygen. My family doc took me off of the oxygen about 1 1/2 weeks after I was home from the hospital. Thank goodness, I felt so "tied" down carrying that around with me! I went for my 1 month post op visit with the surgeon and also had chest x-rays done. Monday I have to go to a lung specialist - there is fluid in my lungs. That has me pretty upset considering there were no problems with my lungs before surgery.
Other than that, things are going well. I do find myself struggling to get all of my protein and water in. I had one bout of foamies & vomiting and since then, the thought of foods/drinks make me naseous. The food I ate earlier on (cottage cheese, scrambled eggs) blah - I don't think I could stomach right now so I'm looking for new high protein food!
I'm walking everyday with my dog. I think I'll try today without him - I think I could go further. I'm only doing 3-5 blocks.
It sounds like we're all doing quite well considering the change to our bodies!
