one week post-op
Hello - I am one week post op too! I had surgery last Tuesday. I feel fine. I actually went shopping the same day. Not sure what surgery you had, but I had the lap-band. I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am, and by noon, I was on my way to the craft store to purchase fabric for my next project. We stayed out for about two hours. I went home and took a really long (3 hours) nap, but I've been up and out ever day since.
Are you taking a vitamin? Are you eating meals? I'd call the doc - just to ensure that all is ok.

I'm one week post op also. My gastric bypass was 9-19. I was wobbly until this morning and then all of a sudden woke up after a full night of sleep and the fog had lifted. Don't give up hope! My biggest complaint is that I've been hungry for two days even though I'm getting all the protein and all 64 fluid ounces in. I ate a sugar free pudding today and even took a couple of bites of cottage cheese (slowly and until liquid of course), but I feel kinda weak, light headed and have a rumbly, hungry tummy every two or three hours. At first I thought I was just bored and so tried to distract myself by walking around the block, reading a book or talking on the phone, but nope, it's real hunger. Luckily I found Penny on this site, read her blog and her first week talked about hunger. I wrote to her and she said she was hungry for two weeks and then, bam, no more and never again. Gave me HUGE hope. This website is the best thing ever! So, back to you mom. My guess is that the wobbly legs are still from anesthesia wearing off or weakness from it being a major surgery or just because darn it, we're not EATING anything and that it'll go away in a day or two. Hopefully you'll just wake up one day and feel a spark of energy again. Good luck!

Hi Sue,
Thank you for your reply. I had a RNY gastric bypass and you sound most like me. I am eating exactly according to my docs orders, soft foods of course. I'm getting in all my protein, all my water, and all my exercise (almost a mile walk a day - though much slower than pre-op and no weight training yet). I feel the best tonight. The nurse called yesterday to check in and said I could try some really fluffly scrambled eggs. I had that with some cheese melted in for "dinner" tonight. I feel much stronger. I think even though I didn't feel what I thought was hunger, maybe I actually was hungry. The eggs just seemed to perk me up. I'm also still trying to keep up with my kids which is less than restful at times. (The little one was "surfing" off the ottoman on a kickboard yesterday!) And...my mom called to remind me that I am recovering from major surgery and to give myself a break. (I tried to do the mom taxi thing today and it was tough) Probably just pushing a little too hard too fast. Hubby is home tomorrow so I should be able to focus on taking care of myself instead of those munchkins. Sounds like the lapband might have been nicer recovery but (for a lot of reasons) I still think this was the right surgery for me.
Your Mom is right! Give yourself a break... you just had major surgery! You're not going to feel up to par, let yourself rest. I put my dog in a dog resort - I know it's not that easy with kids... but maybe get some more help with them if you can. You need to be relaxing. Take it easy, some days are up, some I need to rest more. Just listen to your body.
Hi - I was banded on 9/12.....not all of us band folks are lucky enough to go shopping a few hours after surgery! In fact, I would say most of us are not! I was in the hospital overnight, in tremendous pain for 3 days, and then started to feel human again.....but to answer your original question, the entire first 10 days I was very tired. I think focusing on my protein has helped me keep the energy up but I definitely wanted to take more naps than ever. Just listen to your body - it knows best when trying to heal! And good luck!
Linda, I'm Linda, too -- I had my surgery on Monday, 9/17. I have noticed that I've been "head hungry," thinking about having something to eat when I'm at the computer or watching TV, but really not hungry in my stomach. I'm having a hard time tolerating milk - I fear I may be lactose intolerant! Very hard to have those protein shakes when you can't tolerate the milk. And everything has a nasty aftertaste. I can taste the artificial sweeteners and it's not good!
I had a lot of energy to start off, but I'm getting fatigued a lot easier now. I wasn't sleeping at night, either, but last night had a full sleep without the help of a sleep aid. Then today, in the afternoon, I started to feel weak. Even after 'eating,' I don't feel any energy. I have to work on upping my protein, I think.
Best wishes!
I am still a little weak and wobbly. I had lap. gastric bypass. I am doing well and no complication. I can stay up pass 2 pm est. i have to take a nap around 3:30 or 4:30 for at least a couple of hours. I am getting in my protein and liqiuds, and go walking for 2 miles every other day. I pushed myself yesterday and walked 3 miles. I was completely exhausted and took a nap for about 4 hours and still was tired afterwards. I am going walking today but only for 30 minutes or so.
My doctor and nurse said,"listen to your body."
