Losing 1 pound a day...is this normal?

Hello, I was banded on 9-17-07. Within 9 days I have lost 10 pounds. I am eating pureed foods- 1/2 cup every 3 hours for 6 meals per day just as I was instructed. I am very excited to be losing the weight but concerned that it might be too much too fast. Is anyone else losing weight at this rate? ~ Lisa

Well. Of course it's not normal. But it all depends on how dramatic the change was for you. If before you got banded you ate non stop and then all of a sudden your body is taking in 200% less food. Of course! Thats what you wanted to happen! GREAT JOB! It will most likely slow down because your metabolism will adjust. So be happy! www.trueresults.com www.aigb.com http://athletes.kintera.org/crossfit07/nkent

Thank You so much for your reply. Yes that makes sense. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong but I guess I must be doing something RIGHT. I am in fact enjoying my weight-loss...for the first time in memory I am actually looking forward to stepping on the scales in the morning!

Hi - I was banded on 9/12. My doctor's diet was 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies, and then to progress slowly into real food again. I lost 10 lbs the first week, 3 the following week, and now I'm down another 2 (2 days into my 3rd week). If you're getting the small amount of calories that I'm restricting myself to (700-900) then you should be losing weight. I would say that your weight loss will slow down next week or the week after.....until then, enjoy the ride and be prepared to work hard and not gain it back once your hunger comes back. Apparently, there are very few people who have restriction before their first fill, but I'm on week 3 now and still forcing myself to eat....fingers crossed! Good luck!

Hello, The evening of my surgery I was only allowed ice chips. The next morning was liquid diet and by lunch I was on pureed diet and I am not sure how long that one will last but I am sick of pureed foods (2 weeks is enough). My doctor is Dr. Needleman at Ohio State University in Columbus. He has done an excellent job! He has done his part, now I have to do mine! I am glad to hear that I am not the only one losing weight at such an alarming rate. I was prepared to lose 1-3 pounds per week but delighted to be losing much more! Good Luck to everyone!
