Finally A Post-Opper
Had my surgery on the 14th and everything went lovely. My hospital stay was as pleasant as a hospital stay could be. Walking around for days with those jp drains in was the pits, but having them removed went smoothly.
I'm eating softened foods at the moment; a lot of refried beans, low fat low sugar yogurt, seem to be managing cheese and crackers pretty well, and had my first bowl of cheddar grits tonight. Still waiting to see how that turns out, but so far so good.
My main problem is getting my protein in. I can't find a protein drink that doesn't taste all icky poo yucky. I have some adkins advantage freezing in ice tray at the moment to see if having them frozen will make any difference. If not, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I may try ordering some BeneProtein from Walgreens and try that out.
My energy level is pretty gosh darn low at the moment, but my doc said my iron count is very very low and that we need iron for energy. I'm going to start an iron supplement tomorrow and hopefully that'll fix the fatigue issue.
I was supposed to be out of work all week this coming up week, but I miss work, I hate being stuck at home. I'm a school teacher and I miss my kids desperately. I'm going to go back in wednesday, pray for the best; and if it's too soon i'll ask the sub to come back in thursday and friday.
anyway, just wanted to make a quick update for everyone.
(hugs)
I was having the same problem. I know how important protein is so I got some isopure powder from a the vitamin store. I bought the chocolate flavor and mix one scoop with a cup of milk. I seem to being well with this. Two scoops are 50 grams of protein. If I'm not able to meet my protein after most of the day, I make another protein drink.
You could also mix it with sugar free ice cream and make a shake with a blender and put a little ice in it. Hope this works. Good Luck
I had my surgery on the 11th. spent 11 days in the hospital and am finally home. So far I've been using the SF Carnation Instant Breakfast with 1 c ff milk/lactaid = 12 g protein. I have one for breakfast, lunch & dinner. I also made knox jello blocks today 4 packets of knox gelatin & 3 boxes of sf jello in a 9x 13 pan = 24 g protein for the whole pan. Also strained cream soup w/milk (1/2 c = 4 g prot) and lots of lots of water. Hoping to start soft pureed foods Tuesday or Wednesday.
I'm never hungry, just making sure I get the protein in.
I've tried both whey and soy protein and one recipe that isnt too bad is I take 1 cup vanilla soy milk, 2 scoops vanilla soy protein, 1 tablespoon crystal light very strawberry and approx. 1 cup ice cubes, put it all in a blender and it really is good...then I heard of isopure and bought the cookies and cream flavor and mix 2 scoops isopure 1 cup vanilla soy mil**** and crystal light very strawberry in a blender and its really good, there's 24g of protein per scoop, the isopure doesnt have that after taste like the other protein powders have. Good luck and let me know if you have any other luck, getting enough protein in a day is hard for me, and I have a hard time drinking enough water too...so any feed back would be appreciated...congratulations on your surgery and continued success...{{{{{hugs}}}}}
One thing that makes me drink more water is if I'm drinking out of a glass that I like. This may sound silly, but it makes a difference to me. I like drinking out of a glass made of glass, not plastic, with a thin rim. I have these fancy water goblets that match my wine glasses and enjoy the feeling of drinking water out of them.
Also, figure out if you like room-temp water or cool. At work, I have an insulated mug with a lid that keeps my water cool, which I like.
Good luck.
