My NewLife Day is Sept 13th!
Would love to hear from (and keep in touch with) anyone who is going through RNY on or around the same date as me. I'll be in Cleveland for the procedure so, "neighbors " are encouraged to stop in and support and I will certainly reciprocate
What an overwhelming experience it has been so far...and it can only get better (after the initial owies anyway) :-@
I'm still working on my profile (just joined), so please know that I'm definitely not shy :-D
Hugs :: KimmyGee
I'm scheduled for September 11th. I started the liquid diet today... oh yeah... Luckily I already have all my vitamins at home so I don't need to go shopping! I just got scheduled yesterday... I have my pre-op physical on 9/5, my nutrition class on 9/6, my type & cross match (blood match) on 9/7, another apt w/ the surgeon on 9/10 then BAM! Surgery 9/11 ... crazy couple of weeks! I wish you well on your surgery! I'm having the RNY as well!

Wow, guess we're both feeling a little overwhelmed :-o I wasn't required to do the liquid diet, but I wish I would have volunteered! I think it will better prepare me to lose the minimum five pounds they've asked me to shed by the 13th! I have all my pre-op work complete. Now, I'm just waiting patiently to call the night before for my arrival time and also working on getting my pantry stocked. It would be interesting to hear the similarity in our programs. There are such good things ahead for us and some days it overwhelms me, emotionally, to think about even the small things that will improve with the significant body changes...riding a bike with my hubby, fitting in an airplane seat, sitting on a folding chair...the list is somewhat endless! I'm tickled silly!
How is the liquid diet going for you today? I'm thinking of you  ~ Kim
I know how you feel Kim. My Pre-op blood work etc is on 9/4, along with an appointment with the Bariatric Nurse, then on 9/6 they are placing a filter (to prevent blood clots) then my liquid diet starts on 9/8, and surgery on the 11th. The only think I am worried about is that my surgery is scheduled for 1:00 pm and I have to be there at 11:00 am, so I will have the whole morning to work myself into a frenzy worrying. It would be so much better if the surgery was scheduled first thing in the morning so I could wake up early and be very busy until I was supposed to be at the hospital. Instead I have the whole morning. What times are your surgeries scheduled?
Hi Tabitha! I won't know my time until the evening before...now won't that drive me crazy :angst: Tell me more about the filter they are placing for blood clot prevention. Because of family history, I will be on heparin therapy and leg huggers, but I was curious about this filter procedure you mentioned. It's amazing the differences, as well as similarities, with how they treat each individual patient in the different areas of the country.
How about waiting to pack your hospital bag until you get up that morning? Like, don't have a thing ready! That's sure to keep you busy :-D I suppose I would have a little list made up ahead of time, just to be sure I got it all! Also, a nice walk listening and singing some great tunes would help keep your mind off it (a little anyway) or a little light housecleaning? Not fun, I know...just trying to throw some suggestions your way, cuz I'll probably need to do the same!
Please keep me posted on your progress -- pre & post op!
Great things are coming our way! ~ Kim
The filter is a little metal cage looking device that is inserted into an artery in your upper thigh and pushed up into a major artery in your abdomen. I believe this is similar to a heart catheterization, I'm not sure though. They have a sample filter in the doctor's office that is inside a plastic cube so that you can see what it looks like. It will be inside a tube that goes through the artery and when released it expands into a sort of diamond shape. It is supposed to catch any blood clots and hold them there until they dissolve on their own. It will be taken out on 10/4. Here is a website that explains the filter and has a picture of the older style, the newer one is all connected together in a sort of diamond shape. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferior_vena_cava_filter
Thanks for the suggestions for the morning of the surgery, no matter what I am doing I will still be worrying though. Please keep me posted on your progress too. I'll keep in touch.
Tabitha
Tabitha: Thanks for the info about the clot filter. I never heard of it, but very interesting and definitely is life-saving technology!
Worry will happen, we just need to try and keep it from driving us crazy and our blood pressures up :-) If my surgery slot is later in the day, I have my massage therapist on call for a morning facial, hand, & foot massage...that will certainly help me relax a bit :spin: Looking forward to exchanging updates
Catch ya lighter :-) ~ KimmyG
Hi KimmyGee! I am having the same surgery as you on Sept. 11th in Nampa, Idaho. I am so glad I found your posts (by accident, I'm still learning this site, too!) Hopefully I won't post this to you and I'll never find it again- lost forever in cyberspace for everyone to read except ME! Would love to add you to my friends list so we can keep tabs on each others progress! Have a great weekend! Charlotte
Charlotte: Absolutely we can be friends! That's one thing we can never have too many of, right? I'll watch for you in my friends section and you are welcome to mail me instead of using the boards, if it's easier for ya. I sometimes have a hard time following my yogurt-raisin trail back to the boards cuz someone keeps eating them! WARNING - I'm  :-D Looking forward to sharing progress & info! ~ KimmyG
