Hi everyone. I am fairly new to the board but have been waiting for my surgery date for almost a year. Prior to that it was 9 months to get into see the Dr. in Alberta who will be doing the surgery. While Manitoba Health will cover the hospital and travel costs (excluding motels & meals) it is still going to be expensive, probably over $1400.00 out of pocket. My surgery date is September 24/07 with Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat, AB. Will anyone else be going to see him around that date? He wants me to stick around a week after release from hospital just in case I spring a leak or something. I am hoping to take a notebook with me and a bunch of movies. I'm scared, very scared! Char. PS: Does anyone know if the support group still meets every third Thurs at the church on Lilac Street?

Congrats of finally getting a surgery date. It sure can be a long process! It is nice that your insurance will cover most of the cost of the surgery. Even though you are taking more than a thousand out of pocket, that really is not too bad considering how much the surgery costs. My mother had the surgery just over a year ago, and her insurance did not cover it at all. The surgery cost her 23,000 plus an additional 8,400 due to complications. Movies sound like a great idea. Oh,my favorite girly movie is "the notebook" if you haven't seen that one before-it is quite good! I am schedualed for surgery the 12th! Feel free to email me when you are in your hotel if you need someone to talk to. By the way- I am scared too. As great as this surgery is, it is still surgery! One day I am so excited and the next I am scared again! Just think about how your life is going to change for the better! It will be ok! Good luck katie
