surgery date Sept 5th
I am feeling much the same. I just got a call this afternoon telling me when my surgery date is -- September 5th.
I'm excited, scared, and yet strangely calm and ready for this. I've made peace with food as an enemy and am ready to fight to eat only to nourish my body's needs, not my mental hunger.
I'm in Texas.
Good luck!!!

wow, i go to my nutrition class, and pre-admin, and pre-op all on the 29th of august. i will be in whitcita falls all day that day i have to be there by 0830 and i won't be leaving until after my last appt at 245 with dr warnock..i think it is going to be a lot of information giving to me on that day..do you have to do a liquid protein diet before surgery?i am excitted for the both of us, i am gratefull it didnt take tricare a long time to approve it, this has been a long time coming for me, not because of insurance but convincing my hubby to not be scared of it...take care good luck to you too...
I will see the Nutritionist. I'll do pre-admin. I suspect I'll have to do bloodwork. I'll meet with the surgeon. I'll meet with the financial counselor. I'll meet with the anesthesiologists. I don't know WHEN, but probably the week before you.
I have to do 2 weeks of liquid protein diet. I've already asked about it and have been told 3-4 shakes a day -- and a minimum of 1 gallon of water. Then when you can't take the pure liquid any more, you can have a veggie only salad with no-fat dressing (< 60 calories per serving). Thank goodness for my Walden Farms no-fat, no-carb, no-calorie dressing in Thousand Island. The Ranch is "ok" but I love the Thousand Island flavor. I'll be glad to eat a big old head of iceberg lettuce, with baby spinach, baby carrots, and cauliflower and tomatoes with dressing for one meal!
However, the day before surgery is a liquids ONLY day plus I have to take a dose of Citrate of Magnesium at 1:00 pm to clear out the remainder of the intestine and bowel. One thing I need to clarify at my day of appointments will be whether or not I should take my medications that day. As a diabetic, I'm already having to cut back my glyburide dosage as my carbs go down. I was starting to crater in the 50s mid-morning and mid-afternoon at work -- so I'd eat candy to bring my sugars back up. I don't need that, so I lowered my glyburide and my sugars are much more stable in the 90 to 110 range now. I know I will have to stop Piroxicam (a prescription NSAID) and probably my Inderal LA (beta blocker for migraine headaches) on August 31st.
The question is: do I have enough Glyburide, Avandia, Lipitor, Nexium, and Lisinopril to make it until September 4th without having to get refills??? :D

it sounds pretty similar to my appointments..i have to do that magni of citrate two days prior and on the 10 day liguid diet thing i can eat one of those south beach diet bars a day up until 2 days prior then nothing but the clear liquid thing..i hope i can do the not eating solid cause i like to eat, i hope i am not hungry , maybe i will put the protein shake over crushed ice to make it feel like i am eating something instead of just drinking...keep our fingers crossed we will get through this.
I am September 5th also in New Orleans. Well im supposed to be Sept 5th right now it is all in the hands of the PCP at the Military Treatment Facility they are giving me a hard time giving their consent for surgery because I am not using the surgeon they recommend(sorry if i wanted the one that I personally know people that have used him and have gone through the journey of all the crap with). I will find out next wednesday if they are goign to give their consent if not i will just pay for a dr's visit and get another general practicioner to sign off on it.
I am set for surgery on sept 5th, I have a appt for my pre-education, ultra sound & blood work in the morning. On the 24th I go for a EGD. I was + for H- pylori , antibiotics took care of the bacteria after 2 weeks. The second test I took came out negative (Thank GOD). I am assuming thats why I have to have the Endoscopy (EGD). On the 29th I get to Meet with Dr. Robert Marvin. I do not know what time the surgery will take place yet, but I am excited. My insurance required the 6 months of torture before they would approve the surgery. The first time the surgery was requested it was denied, Second time requested it was approved. I called them everyday for the results ( I drove them nuts) It took 2 weeks after the insurance denied the surgery to recieve the letter, If they denied it again I wanted to know, so I could start doing whatever to get it approved. Finally after 6 months, 2 week delay ( h- Pylori ) and 1 1/2 months to get approved by the insurance company . I will update tomorrow after my testing, I am very excited about being able to talk to people who are getting the surgery and have been through it.
