Topic: RE: question about driving after surgery
Rule of thumb - figure on being comfortable to drive about a day or two after you stop taking your "take-home" pain med. It's the rare person who comes home and doesn't need to take something like Roxicet for muscle pain/gas pain. For me, that time frame was 5 days, and my pain wasn't truly intense, but I still needed the Roxicet. I felt comfortable to drive about 7 days from the date of the actual surgery. Even if you "feel" ok - you'd be suprised how the ab muscles get used even when driving. Give yourself at least a week before you try such a long drive, would be my two cents.

Topic: RE: I'm Home "to the 18ther's"
Hi from another 18ther! Didn't get back to this board til today, but I'm glad to hear you're doing well! I'm amazed at how "easy" it is for me to get my fluids in, I'm now a better judge of when I need to slow it down a bit. Slowly adding more activity each day. Have my 10-day follow-up tomorrow. If my home scale is correct, I'm already down 22 pounds since surgery, not including the post-op fluid gain/loss. I started out at 400+, so that has to be considered, but it is so flippin' amazing!!! I'll hopefully be starting purees tomorrow. Cream of wheat and scrambled eggs are sounding soooo good right now! Congrats! And keep us updated!

Call your surgeon. #1. This is probably normal. I was like you except I didn't have a bm the first week. When I finally did, it was very soft, then nothing for 2-3 days, then normal and I've been normal ever since. Your body is going through a process just like you are and every body is different. #2. I wouldn't dare take any stool softeners or anything to get you going without approval from your surgeon. I'd be scared to death something in that stuff could hurt my tummy. If you're not in any pain, you could try another day or so and see what happens. If you're cramping or bloated, again, call your doctor. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear. I'm only on my 2nd week post-op and still relying on my doctor instead of me taking things into my own hands. Good luck! Donna

I wasn't comfortable to drive for about 5-6 days after surgery. I still had very loose ab muscles for that long and bumps were terribly uncomfortable, not to mention side effects of pain meds.... it's really specific to how you feel. I would however suggest you err on the side of caution... this is major surgery, take the time to heal. Renee

I had the RNY, and have lost 15lbs since surgery. The shakes are protein only. Certainly listen to your doctors advice as they know best. Renee

Topic: RE: GASTRIC SLEEVE
Hi Janice, I had my gastric sleeve or vsg on 9/19 and all I can say is that I LOVE it. When I came out of anastesa (sp?) and didn't feel like they did anything too me, even the gas pain that everyone gets no matter what procedure they have was no big deal. If you haven't found it yet, there's a forum just for us vsg people, you can find the answers to any of your questions here by people who have gone before you and they are a great bunch of people. Here's the link: http://obesityhelp.com/forums/VSG Also, here is a link to a faq just for the VSG, it should answer most questions: http://www.beadbaker.com/VSG/ Good luck and feel free to give me a holla if you have any questions. THE VSG, IT's A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......................................PAul
