Hello all! Ok, so I am 16 weeks out from surgery, and I had and open RNY combined with a galbladder removal and hernia repair. At this point, my hernia is still an issue.....it's location is right above my naval, and although my stomach and other areas on my body are shrinking, I still have this bulge on my belly--the hernia. Has anyone had this kind of experience?? Also, I've lost 73lbs so far, but I am always SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COLD!!!!!! I'm thinking it's the insulation being gone, but is there anything else I should be concerned about???? Thanks for reading! I welcome any and all advice!! Anne

I have the being cold issue. My hands are always like ice. I never use to wear long sleeves or pullover sweaters indoors but I do now. I even wear flannel PJ's to bed.

I used to laugh when my friend who had her surgery 2 years before me would wear sweaters in the summer! Now being 4 months out.. I know how she feels!!!! LOL It must be our insulation factor... Never knew my chub was what was keeping me toasty all these years! Just think... Come summer when everyone else is dying from the heat... We will be nice and comfy! If you are having bloodwork done by your Surgeon or Clinical Nutritionist, they would be up to date on your levels as far as Anemia and such... If you have not had bloodwork done in a bit, you may want to call them just to be on the safe side.... Hugs.. Lori

I too FREEZE !!! It is awfull. My nose is even always cold. Crazy !Congrats on the weight loss. My Dr says I have a " developing" hernia and it is bigger in that area too. I think it is common but hopefully someone else has better advice for you. As for the coldness ... we need sauna suits ! Paula

Hi Ladies, I am from the Sept 04 surgery board, but the activity is soooo low I thought I would check out your board. I didn't anticipate participating, just thought I would see what was going on but I have to respond. I too experienced feeling cold all the time and still do at times.... But, my iron was always very low and since very early post op I have taken iron supplements. You should have blood work done to see if low iron is contributing to being sooo cold! Good luck with your journey! Karen 9/27/04 273/163 (20 to go)

Hi Anne, I have similar issues. I had surgery the day after you and I'm down 82 pounds. But I'm sitting here at the computer with long sleeves and a jacket. Most of the time I don't mind feeling cold but this last couple of weeks has been really bad. Usually in Corpus Christi, it's hotter than the face of the sun, so being cold is a nice change. Seriously, my iron levels have been low since surgery. I have to take iron supplements every day. Anemia will definitely give you that cold feeling. I also have a hernia. Mine is right below my belly-button. My surgeon told me that as long as it's not hurting I should just wait until I lose all my weight then have it fixed. They will remove the excess skin at the same time and insurance will pay for it. Too bad I don't have a hernia in my thighs (LOL) then maybe I could get that excess skin removed too. Good luck, Vicki

regarding the hernia... my sis had to have hernia surgery and about 2 months or so after she noticed that her buldge wasnt really going down so she had it checked out and her dr said it was fluid that they put in there when they repaired her and her body was rejecting the fluid thats why hers wasnt absorbing like it was supposed to...they had to go back in and drain the fluid out not saying thats what yours is of course just throwing her out come in there so maybe u could ask your dr if it could be a possability or something... congrats on the weight loss...
