Salad
I started eating salads at 6 weeks out (I am 9 out now). I loved salads pre-op and I still love them now. Just be very careful about what you are putting in/on them. I love the taco salad from wendy's, but if you put all the ingredients in (including the chili and chips and dressing) it comes to 700 calories for the whole salad!!! I know we can't eat the whole thing now, but even half is 350 calories at one sitting and that is a huge portion of our total calories this early out. I found that just adding salsa as the salad dressing or using that new Spritzer salad dressing (1 calorie per spritz) works great. I found out the other Friday night that for me, caesar dressing is the devil in disguise (no sugar, but HIGH in fat...duh! I wasn't thinking again) I was so sick and in such horrible pain for 2 1/2 hours after eating that....it was so bad I called my surgeon and took him away from his family on a Friday night. Lesson learned!
Also, something I found out... by trial and error...was that I have to remember that the cheese they put in salads is FULL fat. I would think "cheese! Good source of protein!" but it never dawned on me that it wasn't the LOW FAT/NON FAT cheese I use at home.
Most fast food places have the nutritional values of their foods on line so you can check fats, sugars, proteins, etc. ahead of time. Best bet though, is to make your own at home for awhile so you can control what is in it.

for the wendys salads i dont add the stuff to it like the sour cream... yuck and that sauce they give ya its some kinda chipolte sauce or something so i say hold that too and then tortelia things well hubby eats them i just have the lettuce and bean stuff they put on it and i love everybit of it!!!....hehe
Yep, I'm with the rest of them. I've had salad too! Even though I'm not "suppost" to eat it yet. I tend to leave the dressing on it for a few and let it soak into the lettuce so it's no as hard. The first salad I ate I thought I had died and gone to heaven!! It was soooo YUMMY! I don't eat it often, but it's good when I do!!
Hey I went to teh beach last week with my family and we went to a buffett, well i wanted a salad so bad that by the time i sat down to eat it my hands were shaking. my whole family laughed at me. my daughter had to go to the restroom after my first bite well while i took her the waitress toook my salad! I was so mad!!!!!!! Just remember that lettuce doesnt have much if any nutritional value so fill your salad with good stuff. sunflower seeds and nuts are agood protien add in.I put raisins on mine and it was good i had never tried them in a salad before. eat slow and watch out for gassy veggies. Try it with grilled chicken too, Jamie
This was an issue, just last night for me. I have been doing fine with just lettuce, but last night, my mo chopped up everything the size of confetti, and I got really sick.
There was bell pepper, celery and tomatoes and lettuce, that's it. Everything was sooooo finely chopped, but I was sick all night....
I better stick to lettuce only for a while.
