1 Month Surgiversary

Well, it's one month today that I had my RNY surgery (9/11/06). I've lost a total of 30 lbs. and 19 inches. I'm very pleased. A WOW moment: yesterday I realized that when I drive, the steering wheel no longer rubs my belly, in fact, I've got at least 2 inches of space between the steering wheel and my belly. What I'm not pleased about is the fact that everyday or every other day, I throw up my food. I just cannot eat meats it seems like. I don't know if I'm eating too fast, not chewing enough, not taking a small enough bite or if I'm getting a stricture. But I sure am tired of having a lump in the middle of my chest everyday! I can get my vitamins & meds down and my protein shakes and various liquids. I think maybe I'll go back to soft foods for a few days and then try meat again. Hugs, Donna

Good Job Donna, That was great news. Today I am 3 weeks post op. I have managed to get c-diff, so I am on a major antibiotic for 2 more weeks. it kinda makes me feel sick so I am sticking to protein shakes and yogurt. Keep up the good work and let us know if you figure out why you can't seem to keep meat down. Is it tuna or what type? All my papers say its really hard to digest red meat and they don't recommend having it until your 4 months out. have a great day Tammy

Tammy, I've been eating ground turkey, hamburger, pork chop. I used to be able to keep the turkey and hamburger down, now I can't. I haven't tried tuna yet. I bought the book "WLS for Dummies" and they say not to eat raw fruits or veges until 3 mo's out, but I can't recall what they say about meat. Weirdly, I had roast beef at a wedding 2 weeks ago, had teeny tiny bites and chewed chewed chewed and it went down and stayed down. Ever since then I can't keep any meats down. I'm just scared about not getting enough protein in. I don't want to have to keep drinking protein drinks all day. I do that now and still don't get enough in. Most I've ever gotten in is 43gms. Have a great day, Donna

Wow!!! Congragulations on your weight loss that is awesome!! My doctor says no red meats until six months out. But I am going to be honest and tell you I have tried hamburger meat and it made me throw up too. I don't think I will try it again for another six months. Tuna is a great source of protein! Chicken of the Sea makes these little to go tuna cups that are 2-2.8 oz cups. I just mix them with a little low fat mayo and a little relish and bam I get in 18 grams of protein in one meal! Well good luck!!!! And congragulations again!

Congratulations!! I had mine on 9/12 and I started at 250 and am now 222. I hardly get any food in. I have a protein shake in the morning, at my first break at work I'll have a half a bananna, for lunc 1/4 of an eggsalad sandwich, the other half of the banana on my last break and maybe a little refried beans when I get home or a protein shake. I work out for 45 minutes a day too aerobics/weights. I should be measuring inches but I don't have a tape measure. I noticed when I eat meat, I too get that painful lump in my chest. It's when I don't take small enough bites or don't really chew it very well. Start with a quarter size hamburger patty and take about 10 min to eat it, it should stay down. Take baby bites and chew it until it's dust!! Keep up the good work!! Rachel
