what foods can I eat that are good pureed? very weak,
HI I am almost 3 weeks post-op. I have lost nearly 25 lbs. I am weak all the time, which is bad because i alwasy havea ton of energy. I was put in the hospital for 4 more days last week because they thought i had a blood clot thank the Lord I did not but i ended up with pneumonia. My dr. says I can progress to pureed foods on Monday. What ones are good? I am not sure as to what I can eat. I can start on pureed meats in Nov. but as of right now I want soething that will give me some energy back. a list of good foods would be well appreciated. I ahve tried peaches and applesauce in baby food and like it but i did not like teh bananas. Thanks Jamie
Jamie,
I'm 4 weeks out and I'm on pureed foods also. I eat everything from cottage cheese to chicken, I've had tuna and even meat...the key is to keeep it all moist and blend it well then chew it in your mouth a little more...I think you enery level will start coming back as soon as you get increase your protein levels...at least that helped me...
Good Luck and Congratson your weight lose!!! Elisa
Hi Jamie,
I am only 12 days post op but I couldn't stand it anymore and made some refried beans. I bought the Taco Bell Vegetarian blend. I mashed them up really well, and so far I've eaten approximately 1/4 cup. There is 7 grams of protein in 1 serving (1/2 cup), but I am still drinking protein shakes for more protein in my diet. The protein will give you some energy as well as the carbs.
I am shocked at how much everyone is losing in the first few weeks. I have only lost 10 lbs since the surgery, and I am maybe only getting in 800 calories a day with all this liquid stuff. I am having trouble getting in enough water.
I like the pears in the baby food, yeah the bananas were gross so I pureed a real banana. The thought of pureed meats sounds gross but maybe if I am hungry enough I will try it!!
Hope you are doing better!
Patti
Hi Patti,
You're doing great for being 2 weeks out. Right now your body thinks it's being starved so it's not wanting to lose anything. I can almost bet that before the next 2 weeks are over you'll be down another 15 pounds or so. Do you exercise at all? I ask because I felt like I wasn't losing fast enough either and once I added exercise my body had no choice but to start burning calories. In the past 2 weeks I went from 234 to 222, losing about 6 pounds a week. (I started at 250 and I'm 4 weeks out, down 28 pounds!!) I contribute that to the exercise. I only get in about 500 calories a day, if that, and I burn half of that off. My body has no choice but to start living off my stored fat. Best of luck to you.

Hi Patti, I'm 14 days out & so far haven't attempted to eat anything but my cottage cheese. I did try egg beaters but got the dumping syndrome from it. So you just strated eating some re-fried beans on your own without asking your doctor first? Heck if they stayed down & you enjoyed them; that is wonderful! I think I'm going to try the baby food as well because so far I have tolerated everything I've eaten except the egg beaters. How much baby food did you eat. Have you tried the meat varieties of baby food yet? Would love to know if you did & how it went down? Phyllis
I was weak the first couple of weeks also. I wasn't getting in nearly enough protein- still struggling with that. I accelerated my program at three weeks to include fish. I get the individually wrapped frozen Tilapia filets and pan fry them with olive oil or Pam. They are very soft and I tolerate them well. A three ounce filet has 21 grams of protein. Maybe you could ask your doctor about this.
