I feel like I have indigestion as well as being sore at my incisions. Anyone else have pain at this point. This is the first day without pain medicine so I don't know if it is wise to stop the pain meds now.

I still have a fair amount of pain, especially on my left side. I'm 8 days post op. I had my 1st week appt with my surgeon yesterday and he said everyone is different, but pain is normal, and his quote..."especially since we pulled apart the muscle and drilled up under your ribcage." Thats what I felt he did!! lol I'm still taking my prescription meds, in smaller amounts each day, but I still need it for deep pains inside. I thought I should have been over the majority of the pain by now and so I quit taking my prescription meds on Thursday (postop day 6). As a result, I was completely in tears and miserable all day. I guess I needed to learn my lession that I may drink one half, or even one quarter of the original dose, but I still need it. Try skipping a dose and try extra strength tylenol instead and see how you feel. Listen to your body and remember everyone reacts differently! Wishing you best of luck in your recovery! Jen

Hi Aunt Jenni - I'm a new Ikrammudin post-op (rny was Monday) and I can vouch that what you've said is true - you're not unusual. I had trouble when they started weaning me off the morphine. Just simply hurt. The Roxicet works great, and I've been on it for a couple of days, but I think I'm at the point now (4 days out) where I can forego the regular Roxicet and I'm feeling better. Getting rid of a lot of gas certainly has helped me to! Walking seems to loosen it up a bit. But I suppose that's why they give you Roxicet at discharge - there's obviously a NEED for it, right? I think it's more unusual for people to say they didn't need to use a pain med post-op at home. Hope things are going a bit more pain-free for you at this point. We'll have to touch base again - you're about a week and 1/2 ahead of me. Our journeys may have a lot in common! Take care!

It is very true everyone is very different, my fourth day , I didnt stop the pain meds, the surgical gas was killing me and it wasnt moving it took me a few more days to get relief. plus i had a fever so i felt terrible , my husband drove me over two hours to get back home. If you are hurting that is what the doctor gave you pain meds for. However you will get better and stronger each day, just take it one day at a time.
