Topic: hernias and panni removal
Well I went to my appt. I weigh 244 according to the surgons scales. We talked about plastic surgery and he said it's been over 2 yrs and I have lost a great amount of weight and I could start checking into it whenever I was ready. Told him about not being able to even keep soup down somedays. and he checked my tummy where the pains and discomfort has been and said I have 2 hernias and to check with the plastic surgon on the way out to see about getting a conceltation set up (for Panni removal they have offices on the same floor ) so they can do it all at the same time...soon. When I told the PS office that the WLS doctor wanted me in for hernia repair and Panni removal all at once they set my conceltation for Dec 3rd . He gave me scripts for some meds, bloodwork and I have to have an upper GI with follow to make sure things are getting through ok. Well thats my update Shel Ps Ali is 11 weeks and doing very well , she says Ma, calls daddy Gee , she sleeps through the night now 12-6 or 7 , she is finally in a size 1 diaper as long as they run small and she is now in newborn and some small 0-3 month cloths.

I know how you feel, but remember how badly you wanted this surgery? We need to remember where we came from and why we wanted this surgery in the first place. This happens to the best of us we eat it is what we do best, but we chose to make a diiference for ourselves by having surgery. Now it is our responsiblity to ourselves to do everything in our power not to go back to the old ways. To say the hell with it is saying you care nothing for yourseslf and thats not true thats why you wanted surgery in the first place. You may not want to lose your mom, but eatting youself into a never endding bing will not help matters either. When you feel so over whelmed get out of the house take a walk, cry, scream, yell , get your feelings out. Remember you wanted to be a better you, so you chose to have surgery to make a difference in your life. This may sound hard, but this is what I tell myself every day so I stay on track. Yes, I do have bad days, but I still need to stay focused. I have had tons of complications from this surgery. And in some ways my life is not better, but worse. I just can't give up or in to the old ways and neither can you simple. Life will always give us hard times, but we cannot stop doing the very best for ourselves.

Can someone give me ideas on something I can do besides eating while stressing about my mom I can't see to care anymore and I just eat because it makes me feel better. I don't want to lose her and so I just say to hell with my weight it don't matter and then I get frustrated with myself. I just don't know what to do anymore!! I have gained 10 lbs and I don't want to go back to the old ways but this is how I always dealt with my problems!! Excercising doesn't help any it makes it worse cuz then I just eat more and more!

A revision to what, and why? What's been going on with your RNY that you're thinking about this? Since I'm a DS'er and primarily hang out on the DS board, those are the requirements I'm most familiar with. First and foremost, would be to find a surgeon who is highly experienced with revisions. Revisions are much tougher than the original surgery, and involve a higher degree of risk for complications, so you want the most experienced surgeon you can find. The insurance requirements are generally the same - BMI 35+1 co-morb or 40 with/without one.

Topic: Update after my surgery!
Hey Y'all!!! I just wanted to stop in and catch you up on how I am doing. My surgery was last Thursday morning....I'm still a little blurry with all of the times that things happened, but when I went back for surgery, my wonderful dear surgeon, Dr. Jack, told my dh that it would be about 4 hours. After 4 1/2 hours my dh got worried...the surgery ended up taking right at 6 1/2 hours!!!! I could not believe it!!! Fortunately there were no complications, just a picky surgeon!!! He wanted everything to look good! He started with my breasts, did the reduction and lift (my dh says that "the mountains went to molehills!")....they are small...but I was a 36 LL, so, anything would look small to me! Then he moved to my revision tummy tuck and hip revision....then to my liposuction...and can I tell you...I am a week out today, and still having pain in my liposuction area!!! UGH! It is much rougher than I expected! Right now, I am okay with the way I look, but can not wait for the swelling to go down...Let's see if I can recap my losses.... Pre RNY(2005) - 325 Pre Panniculectomy(5/2007) - 225 Pre Reduction(10/2007) - 215 1 week post reduction - 205 ....just 5 more lbs...I really wanna be under 200!!! ~~emily

Topic: RE: update on mom surgery
Hi Michelle, I'm so sorry about your Mom. Has she been having yearly MRI's and bone scans since her breast cancer? What took them so long to find a metastasis in such a late stage? In late, I'm sorry to say, that at stage four, there really isn't much they can do excpet to keep her on almost constant chemo and/or radiation to kill the cancer and keep it at bay. There won't be a cure at this point. Especially since it's spread to her liver and bones and head. It's mostly comfort measure from here on. I had a friend that had breast cancer and had a metastasis and kept it at bay for over 7 years, but was on almost constant chemo and it was a gruelling way of life. She just wanted to see her grandkids grow up a bit before she went. It was very costly and she was sick, a lot. But, her spread was only to the belly and bones at that point. She knew when it was time to stop and let God that over Try to have your mom keep a postitive attitude and she may live a lot longer with a good outlook. You're going to hit roadblocks because the medical profession really doesn't have much to say at this point. They also may be covering their tracks if they've missed something in the past years that caused this spread to be so far along. Especially if she's had her proper testing every year. Order copies of all of her records form all of the doctors and hosptials involved...for safe keeping in case you choose to seek the advise of a lawyer. Google her cancer and stage and where it's spread and I'm sure you'll find a lot of different forums. But, like I said (and I'm sorry to be so grim), once cancer has spread like this, there isn't much. I'm sorry that you have to be so far away from her. But, if you can get some more time off, I'd go and be with your mom now. It's important. My first husband died after a three year fight with colon cancer and when we found it, (he was 27) it was already in stage 3. They took out the tumor (which was the size of a plum), that means it had been growing from a tiny polyp to a tumor for over 10 years and he begged three or more doctors to scope him when it would have been a polyp cause his dad had just died from colon cancer and shrugged him off and told him it was "an old man's disease". Little did they know. Now, with more knowledge, they give you a colonscopy and snip out the little polyps and it prevents the cancer from even starting. He was just 32 when he died. I was a widow at 30. I know what a nasty thing cancer is, believe me. And I know the heartache losing someone we love is. I'll pray for your mom and for you and for the doctors, that they are given the knowledge to treat your mom with care and concern. Keep us posted. Paula

Topic: RE: I'm NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I KNOW a lot of people gain some of their weight back, in fact MOST. My Dr says it's normal, I refuse that to happen to me.. I am detail oriented and I weigh myself everyday. I KNOW that if I dont take my water pill I can be up 5 lbs and bodily functions can account up to 3 lbs, other than that, 2 days in a row, and I am ON IT! I'd rather know about 5 lbs, then 20!!! You can do this, and it STILL can work for you. Are you getting enough protien? SOmetimes just added a little more can start you losing again? Are you grazing? I know this is a downfall for many as well.. What about carbs?? I do not eat bread MOST of the time, although I do eat toppings of pizza onceweek, and eat crispy edge of it. Are you getting in your liquids(calorie-free?)? VItamins? Are you drinking when you are eating?? I do, do this, but because I can't seem to eat enough and it help me, but some people do it, to eat more and more. Get back to the basics.. OH and EXCERSIZE????? Can you believe right now I actually MISS it... LOL!!! I can't wait to get washboard abs..... Get on the Wagon girlfriend you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm right here CHEERING for you RIGHT NOW!!
