fitday??
I am a little slow on these things. I just started to use it and like everyone before me find it to be a great tool. My question even though I know Barb and others have posted this before- what is everyone eating? Goals in calories and % in carb to protein ratio?
I have started to struggle big time with gaining weight. Up to 4 pounds. I didn't think that I have changed my eating habits to much. I eat just about the same thing every day. My exercise stopped for a few days due to schedule but that is back on track. I would hate to think that missing 3 days of exercise would cause me to gain weight almost right away.
On a positive note I have started to play ice hockey. It was awesome.... I haven't sweated that much on the eliptical. There is a picture on my profile of me in full equipment. My boys were laughing hysterically. It is so much fun not to be embarrassed to try new things.

I haven't done the counting calories and carbs, yet. I have to start though. I'm due to see my surgeon and dietician.
I switched from fitday to www.sparkpeople.com I seem to like that one better.

Im hooked on fitday. I read the sparkpeople.and get good advice from it. But love the fitday weigh ins and reports. I only keep track of food intake when I feel like something is not right. Usally once a week. Then that give me peice of mind. also the fit day charts are so fun to watch. I cant believe how far I have come on that chart.
Two recent examples - My highest calorie day & my lowest of the last two weeks. The numbers are Calories, Fat, Carbs & Protein:

I'm averaging about 1700 calories a day, with a split of 38% fat, 38% carbs, 22% Protein, and 2% alcohol (as in the sugar alcohols in my protein bars). Bear in mind, however, that I had the DS, not the RNY, so I may be able to eat different things than you. But these are some of the things I'm using to get in my protein, if you're looking for ideas.
Thank you It's quite a change getting used to it (short hair) - I've had long hair for so long I sometimes find myself unconsciously trying to put my hair in a pony tail......and for SOME reason, it just won't go!
I wish more insurance companies would cover it, too - not that everybody should have the DS, but people should have the choice. Unfortunately I think it's probably going to go the other direction - more total exclusions rather than opening it up - although I was pleasantly surprised by the Medicare decision to continue coverage of the DS, and to keep coverage both for those under 65 (on disability) and those over.

wow that is completely different than what I am doing. You sure can eat some nice things. Chocolate of any type still doesn't sit well. I average about 1200 cals a day. Some days the carbs are a lot higher than I would like. Trying to keep it similar to what you have as far as break down. I haven't tried rice as of yet. Though every once in a while I will have a wheat pasta with tomatoes.
Thanks I was just looking for some ideas.

I read something interesting in Dr Hess's brochure (http://www.duodenalswitch.com/surgeons/hess_brochure/hess_brochure.html) about rice - this is in the section on Flatulence:
"Researchers have shown that gas producing bacteria feed off small amounts of starch that escape digestion by enzymes in the small intestine. So far, wheat, oats, potatoes, corn, and virtually every starchy food except rice have been implicated. "
Because of that, I tend to like rice as it doesn't produce as much gas as some of the other alternatives. (I like rice anyway, but it's nice to have an excuse, dontchaknow )
Hi donna, I love fitday! I am finally doing it. Oh, and I am losing weight these last few days and you know why -- I AM NOT EATING 8 FUDGE BARS AND CRACKERS!!! Yup, those were my favorite things to eat because they were so easy to digest!! But after reading the article that I posted earlier, I see that can definitely be a down thing for me!! I'm aware, and that's important.
And look at you - hockey!! You go girlfriend! I'm going to have to go look at your profile!
It is good not to be embarrassed anymore on things, sort of like we're okay now, we belong, we fit in. I know when I was doing Salsa dancing I just went right for it, whereas last year, no way!
talk to you later -
love
