my tricks of the trade - repost
I posted this on the main board, but in case you don't get to read the main board often, my post might have gotten lost i the shuffle, so here's what I've learned about protein --
My very favorite protein products:
ACHIEVONE cappuccino - have one every morning, 20g protein in a little 120 cal bottle. Cannot beat it. And I don't get hungry again until lunch. I buy mine directly from the manufacturer, skylarhaley.com because find that there expiration dates are at least one year in advance, can't get any fresher than that!
SUSHI - get the sashimi, no rice, sometimes i splurge and get the nigiri which has rice, but not much. I usually get the Sake (salmon) and sometimes the maguro (tuna). It is awesome with soy sauce and the green spicy stuff. Love this, and eat it like 4 times a week for dinner!!! Excellent source of protein, and the cost, well hell i'm worth it!!!
BEEF JERKY -- I know, I really don't like beef jerky either, but I recently got some beef jerky samples from vitalady.com. Well, holy cow, 15g of protein in a 65 calorie jerky treat. Guess what? I bought EIGHTY of these individually wrapped treats from another website. They are filling, and come in handy when I haven't met my protein for the day. I only eat the regular ones, not the teriyaki or spicy ones. Okay it's not the most appetizing thing, but we all know how important protein is and for 15g in a 60 calorie treat, 1 g of carb, not much sodium, that in itself appetizes me! http://store.yahoo.com/worldclassnutrition/sci-fit-beef-stix.html -- i have no affiliation with this website, but it was just the best price i was able to find after looking for in on pricebrabber.com. Try samples from vitalady first before ordering EIGHTY of them like I did!
MISO SOUP -- Okay this only has 3 grams of protein, but this was a great tip I got from hungrygirl.com - You can get these Miso soup packets from Kikkoman (most grocery stores will have it in their asian section). The packets have only 35 calories, 3 g of protein (because there's some tofu in there) and super easy to make (just add 2/3 cup ho****er) and you are good to go. It fills me up, esp when I want a little snack before bedtime or at work. If you really get protein-happy, add a few fresh chunks of additional fresh firm tofu in the soup. I usually hate tofu but love it in this soup.
I don't eat protein bars, haven't found one I really like, plus I rather get my protein from food that actually tastes good.
Hope somebody benefits from my tricks of the trade. It has taken me 6 months to find all this stuff, but I am so happy I did.
best to all,
amy
