6 months post op and pregnant
Ok, been gone from the forum for awhile....I just got a little overwhelmed and stayed away for awhile. At any rate, I know this is for the pregnancy post op forum, but I just thought I'd share. I had been using an IUD and just found out last week that I was 7 weeks pregnant w/ an IUD still in! Of course, I was totally blown away. I knew I had been tired and not feeling my best. At any rate, now I am terrified because I don't want to have gone through all of this for nothing. All I can say is that if I am pregnant despite taking precautions, God must have a plan for me. Just keep me in your thoughts and prayers for a safe pregnancy and smooth transition from post op, to pregnant, to post partum.
EEK that is scary, I have an IUD myself!! I'm sure you are right, if you got pregnant despite having that God has to have a plan for you. Were you having any problems with your IUD? Could you feel the "strings" ok? I would flip out if that happened to me. You are over half way there though so hang in there, I'm sure it won't be for nothing you will still lose your weight after the baby. Just be sure to take good care of both of you for now and worry about the rest later. Good luck!!
Hi Stacy,
Not sure if you're reading all of the posts on this thread, but I thought I'd tell you that my surgeon told all of us female patients that he wants us to use TWO forms of birth control for the first (at least) 18 months to two years because our hormones are changing around so much, that it really easy to get pregnant. He's even had a woman that had menopause get pregnant.
Just wanted to let you know...use all the precautions you can if you don't wish to get pregnant.

Hi Carliss,
My surgeon advised all of us women to use two forms of birth control up to 18 - 20 months after surgery. BUT, that's no use to you now!
I'm hoping that you have doctors that will closely monitor you and the baby for proper nutrition. You have to make sure that you're getting in enough protein and vitamins for you at this point and now you have to take care of baby.
The pregnancy forum will be a huge help to you. You ARE NOT the first woman to get pregnant early out. And they've stayed healthy and had healthy babies.
Take care and come back here to keep us posted, ok?

Carliss,
I just found another online support group for women that have had WLS and are pregnant.
here's the link

Carliss, I am sure you are right, God has a plan for you. But you can help out by getting back to your surgeon NOW and consulting with him regarding how you make this work out. My surgeon's office said they work with people who end up in your situation to make sure the pregnancy and the weight loss are successful. Good luck and congratulations!
My dr. told us that physically pregnancy wasn't the issue as far as what we have done. The biggest problem is nutrients and stress. As a post op most people don't take in all you need. Now add a fetus to it and it doesn't take in all it needs. Real bad for the baby.
Like the others my advice get to your Dr. right away and pay real close attention to all the nutritional advice that they give you.
and good luck.
