Is it possible to loose more 6 months post op?
I am now 6 months post op and 81 pounds since surgery. I tend to loose only a pound or two every 2 weeks. I am loosing inches though. I work out doing water aerobics and said to my Instructor that I need to tone me up really well because in 6 months for my Niece's wedding I want to be down 60 more pounds. That would make me 163 pounds total. And she said that most likely I will only loose 30 more. She knows I had gastric bypass. Does that sound about right to all of you? It will be 1 year at the end of this September that I would have had surgery. Now mind you I did loose 32 before surgery so that does bring my total to 113 but am I being unrealistic? I was sort of down in the dumps about this all day since I got home from class. Oh, one more thing. Have any of you lost a pound here and there and then in the 7th or 8th month you began loosing alot at once? Thank you to anyone responding to my post.
Not including the first month, I have averaged about 11 lbs a month, with my biggest loss coming at month 5 (15lbs) . My smallest loss was month 4 with 4 lbs. So yes, it is possible to have a large loss after a small one.
I'm now down 76lbs since surgery, and while I do expect to lose the remaining 65 lbs, I believe that will probably take more than six months to do because I don't expect my pace to continue since 11lbs at this weight is a higher percentage of my excess weight than it was 50 lbs ago.

Thanks for your support. I decided when I woke this morning to measure myself. Since I am not loosing weight I know I am loosing inches. Well, I am happy to report that in ONE month I went down:
2 more inches in my bust
4 more inches in my waist
5 more inches across my bust
1 more inch in my thigh
1/2 inch in my forearm
That is 12/12 inches!!!
I don't believe your water aerobics instructor can tell you how much weight you are going to lose. It all depends on your body and how hard you work. Have you asked your physician where youshould end up? I don't feel you are being unrealistic. I think it all depends on how much you want this and how hard you are willing to work. I am not sure what the weather is like in your area because I forgot to look before I started posting, but good weather is coming and you can be outside walking, riding bikes, and doing work in the yard. Every little bit helps. Good luck!!!

Seems like most of us September people are in the same boat with no paddles...lol
The good news is that when I talked to my surgon and asked him if this was gonna start slowing down now or stop he sorta smiled and said you still have another yr to lose weight. He said even though my case is a bt different becouse of pregnancy and M/C slowing my weight that people begin to have stalls and platues while the body adapts(wich I knew) I asked someone when I was pre op about how to tell the difference between a stall and a platue and she said by how long it annoys you...lol
Basicly a stall can be a few days to a couple weeks, a platue is more like a month or two or three Don't give up on the loseing yet, summer is going to eventualy get here.
Once summer comes you can change up your rutine and shock that body into losing again ,I'll also look around for something called the Platue butster I see posted now and then and bring it to the board for anyone who is intrested.
Hugs,
Shel
Hi Debbie -
I too hope it's possible to lose more after 6 months. Folks in my support group definitely have. And I agree with another responder - I don't think anyone, including our surgeons and/or our water aerobics instructors, can truly know how much more we will or will not lose. There are soooo many variables.
I consider myself a slow loser - I've lost 79 lbs since surgery on 9/30/05. I lost 11 before the surgery, so I'm at 90 pounds loss now...and I "only" lost 5 pounds this past month. But I did go down yet another size. I hope with actually getting back to the gym this will pick up again. It sure does sound like many of us 6 month-ers are in a similar boat. I also "stalled" a bit 3 months out.
I hope you reach your goals, and wish you well.

HI Mary, Thanks for responding. Congrats on your weight loss. I am glad to see more people who had surgery around my time is at this amount of weight loss. I really thought most people lost much more than I did. I know I have read the heavier you are the faster you loose and I did diet for 11 months and lost 32 pounds before surgery so my Surgeon told me my body is used to dieting and exercising. I know when it gets really warm here in Arizona I will be doing water aerobics 2 times a week and swimming doing my laps 5 times a week because I go to the pool every day even after work and I love swimming my laps outside. So that should do the trick. I know we both will reach those goals we just need to remember that this weight did not come on overnight. Wishing you luck in your journey to a new you too!
I just wanted to say that 60lbs in the next 6 months sounds a little high to ME, meaning in MY experience, but every person is different. I do believe you can certainly have a really low weight loss month and then go back up. And with every WLS patient I know of you can/should definately be able to lose after 6 months. Our Dr's tell us 12-18 months is the most typical "window" for weight loss so you still have time. I have another 30lbs to Dr's goal (35 to mine) and I asked at my 6 month appt whether it was still realistic for me to lose that by my 1yr anniversary and my Dr said yes that was completely reasonable. For me I know there is no way I could ever lose 60 in that time (if I had 60 to lose I mean) because I have never lost at that fast of a rate but many people do. Just do your best, try your hardest and see what happens but I'm sure you'll get close to it if you set your mind to it and work really hard. Good luck, either way you are doing GREAT!!
