Does any one weigh their food
Do you think we need to weigh our food. When I eat salad I think I over eat. But I have heard it melts in your stomach. If I weighed the salad it would be really light. also when the doctor says 3 ounces or 4 ounces of food. Does he mean a measuring cup or weighing foods on a scale. I know foods weigh different. I know this is silly question but just wondering. It is like popcorn I can eat more of that. It is because it is lite. Thanks

Hi Barb, see, here I am, online almost all day!! Well yesterday I ate a Subway salad (club) and ate almost the whole thing!! I was surprised -- and a bit worried!!
Today, I ate a McDonalds Cobb and couldn't eat but maybe 1/4 of it. So it depends on me day to day.
If I eat alot, I get sick. I mean I actually have to put my finger down my throat (please no flames on that!!). I am trying to identify a full feeling, but really have trouble with that. For that reason, I measure food. I use a scale which is what my doctor said to use. I measure 2 oz of protein and 2 oz of whatever else (veggies). I seem to be able to eat almost the 2 oz of protein, but usually I would say it's more like 1 oz. I measure the food, and then I put it on the plate (small) so I can visulize what the amount I am comfortable eating looks like. Now because of this, I tend to get hungry and have to eat about every 2-3 hours (again, on the advice of my doctor).
I hope this is helpful. Hmmm, interesting about popcorn. I haven't even tried that yet!!

Hi Barb,
I have been weighing my food since I started on soft diet a week after surgery. I don't eat more than 3 ounces at a time (Dr's protocol). I have found this to be the best thing for me. I still have never had an overly full feeling and usually after 2 oounces, I'm satisfied. I usually eat 4-5 times a day. You will notice that stuff like salad and popcorn weighs a lot less so you can have a lot more. I do try to have my protein always weigh 2 ounces and then whatever is left is for veggies. I bought a digital scale at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $30 bucks and it is great. It is small enough to fit in my purse and the bottom tray will flip over to use as a plate if necessary. Another great thing is if you put your empty plate on first and then turn it on, it zeros out so you don't have to try and do the math in your head.
Hope this helps.

Barb,
I have a digitial scale. I used it more when I first started eating solids after surgery. Now, I use it mostly to measure my protein to make sure I'm getting the right amount. It seems I eat more than others, but I'm still losing 1-4 pounds a week, so I'm not changing what I'm doing. I always thought it was good to measure food out every so often to keep on track. I have a distorted idea of what a portion is....that's what got me into trouble in the first place
Good luck, Linda R
I was just kinda guessing at measureing my foods like a long piece of sausage I measure and it was 3 1/2 ounces I was surprised. Then I went to Burger King with the kids and tried to figure out what I could eat and I saw the STEAK BURGER and thought ok that would be good without the bread and stuff so I ordered it and I asked as I was eating it how many ounces is this? Just by looking at it I thought it would of been maybe 2 or 3 ounces. IT WAS 10 OUNCES!!!!! No wonder I got full so fast!! So things are deceiving so I think measuring it after that is a good idea!! so now I am back to measuring certain things so I don't over do it!
