hair loss increasing
I have been obsessing about my hair loss. When I comb my hair after I shower, it seems like it's coming out in clumps. I talked to my hairdresser about it, and she said it's completely normal to shed hair. She didn't think there was much difference in my hair, and pointed out all of the little sprouts that are cropping up all over my head....I didn't even notice, I was so focused on what in my hands and on the counter. She also gave me the following info:
Normal hair shedding is approximately 25-100 hairs per day. (mine is not over 100 hairs)
It can occur following any sudden physical or psychological stress to the body. (Surgey-Weight Loss) This type of hair loss is called "Telogen Effluvium" and is usually temporary. It is important to remember hair loss may be delayed by up to three months following the sudden physical or psychological stress, and last for up to 8 months before regrowth is fully achieved.
I think the hair thing is the most upsetting for me because it's the one thing I really liked about myself before surgery, and got the most compliments on.
For all those people out there thinking about surgery, worrying about hair loss, this should not stop you from going through with the surgery. I don't think any of us here would tell you that. It is just one of the things to be prepared for after surgery. You won't go bald! And the health benefits of the surgery certainly out weigh the fear of hair loss.
