Eating too little?

Im kind of wondering if it's to do with pouch size, or what a person is eating... But Ive been following everyone's progress here. Hubby is 4 months out now, and compared to everyone else he can eat so very little. Ive really been stressed out lately about him not getting enough water, protein and calories.... but it's almost impossible because he can barely eat anything. Sometimes I see someone here post what they are eating, and one meal would feed Hubby all 3 meals for 2 days! This morning he had 1/8th of a very small apple and some peanut butter and was stuffed. He is lucky if he can fit in 2oz of anything. One small bite of chicken and he is done. I worry about him, but I also wonder how normal this is? He can only eat probably 1/4 of what others are eating at this stage. I guess it could be the oposite right--- I could be posting and worrying that he is eating too much. Darlene, I have to say that I would be concerned, too. I would encourage you to contact dh's surgeon or bariatric coordinator...or someone and let them know. I think I am able to eat too much, I am really trying to be aware of how much I am eating and not eat everything on my plate or only eat 1/2 of something. Is your dh having problems with strength or being tired? Those could be signs that he isn't getting enough nutrition, too. I will be thinking about the both of you... ~~em P.S. Let us know when you submit to insurance!

No more problems with tiredness than before surgery. Strength is ok. Im really working on more way's to get protein in him! He just gets full so very quickly. He is not bothered by it, he has no appetite and unless I was there forcing him, he probably just wouldnt eat. He talked to the PA in his last appointment and they werent worried by it... I just want him to get more nutrition in. He isnt losing as fast as he could either because of the lack of food... Oh believe me, I will let the world know when I hear on insurance for me LOL

Darlene.. Just rememeber everyone is diffrent. Somedays I can eat (darn hormones) and somedays I can bearly eat. Not meaning to be rude or upset anyone, but I notice most people in are able to eat more then I can. I just figure I'm diffrent soemhow someway. An example of my eatting would be... today I missed breakfast (BAD bariatric I know...) so I had a BIG lunch (for meat lest)... I had 1/3 a cup of soup, 3 bites of chicken salad and 3 skinny french fries. In all honesty I could go without dinner, I'm still VERY full 5+ hours later. However I'm on a stalled right now and I am concerned that it is because I do not eat enough. As long as your hubbie is continuing to loose, isn't feeling run down ect. then I really wouldn't worry too greatly. My nutrtionalist said in a year and a half she want me eatting 900-1200 cal. a day, right now she feels 500-800 is adaquate. Pleople will jump on me and disagree with me/ my nutrionalist on this but I'm going to listen to my docotor and his staff... I trust them. Best wishes on your cardiac clearence.... Erin STUCK

Try feeding him foods that are less dense. I find that if I eat meat,I fill up quickly. If I eat soup,or something with a sauce,I can eat more. I eat pasta and that does not fill me up as fast. I also do well with casseroles. If I eat meat or eggs ,I get full quickly.I do ok with potatoes.

I also am not able to eat much in one sitting. My nutritionist wants me to eat at least every 2 hours. She told me to set a timer. She said even 1 bite of food every 2 hours is good. I can eat lots of soup, though. If I make soup, I'll have maybe 1 or 2 bites of the solid stuff, then drink the broth. The broth still has protein and nutrition, so it counts. Protein drinks make me feel overly full. It takes at least an hour for me to drink one. I still can't eat a whole string cheese in one sitting. Have your hubby talk to a nutritionist and see what they say. They might have him eating often like I'm supposed to. Good luck.
