I'm so mad anytime I see crap like this: "As America's waistbands continue to grow, so has our need for an easy solution, like bariatric surgery. The number of weight loss surgeries performed in the U.S. has grown by 450 percent from 1998 to 2002, according to a recent study among surgeons." EASY? Please. This really upsets me. Clearly written by someone who never fought in the battle of the buldge. The full article is here: http://www.mydna.com/health/weight/news/news_20060124_gastric_bypass_numbers.html

I would urge everyone on the board to contact myDNA.com. As a healthcare professional I am appalled by the opening statement in this article. "As America's waistbands continue to grow, so has our need for an easy solution, like bariatric surgery." There is nothing easy about this surgery, or your life after surgery! I'm sure you would all agree. The the article goes on to regurgitate facts from the most recent studies published in the Annals of Surgery about bariatic prevalence and outcomes. It's just irresponsible. It makes you wonder...who funds this site...the insurance companies? There are a growing number of insurance companies who are not covering bariatric surgery sighting the easy way out" theory. Like I said e-mail the editors, let them know there's nothing easy about this at all! myDNA.com 1250 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, DC 20036-2603 Voice: 512-627-4121 Fax: 801-650-4562 Email: [email protected] Linda R

Hi-Did you notice that e-diets is a MAJOR advertiser on that site? And I'm sure that E-diets would rather people were on their site rather than changing their lives through bariatric surgery. Follow the money. Shannon B.
