OK, I have been around reading but do not post...but now... gotta ask those wonderful folks out there for help. I had RNY on 16 sept and things are really going great.. However, NOW begins the hair loss. Yes, I knew it was possible, but I mean does anyone have a guess about how long this will go on? I was lucky enough to have lots to spare but now it is getting awful thin..... If I had some idea of when it might stop, that might help my growing nervousness. To answer the typical questions: Yes, I get enough water and protein daily. Never miss a vitamin, exercise , yes. All the boxes are checked and I am loosing weight at a nice pace: about 30 kilos by now. I eat right and do the protein thing so that isn't an issue. ANYONE: How long do before the hair loss stops?? Thanks, jacqueline

Dont know when it will stop. I do know mine has been coming out for a couple of months now (surg date 13 sept). I think it is slowing some days but others i lose quite a bit. I also get all my vit and protein in. My doc suggest adding zinc. I havent tried it as i have tons of hair already I figure it will stop and then ill get more back again. Tammy o

I had my surgery on 9/12 and my hair is quickly falling out and I didn't have much to lose at the start. I sure hope that it subsides soon. Also I have bad hair days everyday. My hair looks so corse and unhealthy, I have got to find something that I can do to where it altleast looks healthy. I get all my protein, vitiamins and I take Biotin everyday. I guess this is one side effect I will have to live with. Good Luck, Britt

I have been told that it usually starts about 3-4 months after surgery and ends about 5-6 months after surgery. I never thought I would be able to say that I have thin hair, but it is happening. I have also been told that it doesn't really matter what you do- vitamins, water, biotin-if it was gong to fall out it was just going to happen. But hopefully there is an end in sight soon. Christine

Hey girl! Will I see you at support group on Saturday? Due to malabsorption, you aren't getting in as much protein and vitamins as you are taking. I don't think ALL your hair will fall out. I read hair loss usually stops after about 3 months.
