Let the hair loss begin....

Well it finally happened, all the sudden my hair is falling out at 3.5 months post op. This was my biggest fear in this journey as I have thin, fine hair to begin with. Just about the time you are feeling really good about yourself and how you look and then it starts! I know, it's temporary and will be worth it in the long run but I need to vent about it now. If anyone found something that slowed there's down, let me know, I'll try anything!

Hey I know where you're at with this! I have the same surgery date and my poor hair is falling out too. I hate it. Makes me nervous to blow-dry it now or bru**** too hard! Crazy. No, personally, I've read some people advice B-6, others to keep protein up..but then again I've seen people that do it all and still lose the hair. Luckily, I have thick hair, although I just got it cut short & flippy, hoping that it will look that much fuller. I hope yours slows down and you find a secret method that you can share with all of us. Take care, Kelly

I'm right up there with you, girls! I started losing my hair at 3 months, and am having fits! I have increased my protein, taking biotin and a suppliment for cancer patients (of all things) for hair, and nothing is working. I'm afraid I will be bald. I am having a run of the blues this week, and this certainly is not helping! If you hear of anything that works, let me know!!! Marianne in NC

I too have been losing my hair...I talked to my doctor about it, she said that this is from the period of time we weren't getting enough protein (for the first couple months). The things we do now will influence our hair loss for the future (say, three months from now)...although we can't stop it now, we can stop it for later. So keep up the protein and the biotin. Things will subside for us (I'm told). Hugs Jan RNY 9-7-05 298 beginning 262 day of surgery 202 current

Me too, Ladies! Mine started about two weeks ago and is going strong. I've learned that I MUST wash my hair everyday, because if I skip one day, the hair loss with the next washing is devastating! I've also seen people do everything under the sun to help with it and nothing seems to work, so I've decided to stick it out. I make sure I have my protein and vitamins and hope for the best. Oh, and I made sure to ask my hubby if he was prepared to love me, bald! Amy 265/184/150

Amy, I am not doing nothing for my hair loss either. They really say nothing works. Why waste the money trying. I am just going to let it fall out because I know it will come back. They say to not pull your hair with pony tailers or hair clips. and to not use the blow dryer and curling iron. I cant stop thst either or my hair would really look bad. It cant last forever Bar

Yep my hair loss started at Christmas-- gee, thanks SANTA! And now... yes, it's freaking me out! I don't think any of those products do anything for it though...although maybe they help the hair that grows back in by making THAT thicker?... I actually started looking at wig sites on the web yesterday... sigh. Good luck folks!

You are not alone my hair is falling out too and it is not very thick hair either. I am considering getting a hair cut to a horter style so mybe less weight on my head less hair loss. I am taking vitamins from GNC called Nurishhair and they are not working at all. Was considering Rogaine or something like it to try to help, but looks like fromt he other posts nothing really works. I was bad with my vitamins and protien for a while but I am consistent now but it isn't helping much either. Good luck!!! Judi

I just started to notice hair loss in the last week. Actually it started a few days after Micheal asked if anyone had hair loss for his chart. I said no and obviously jinxed myself. I have really heavy and thick hair so it isn't real noticable yet. I don't think I could make it either if I couldn't blow dry or curl my hair. I guess I will have to see how much hair I lose and then decide from there what option I take-probably nothing. It does seem like a waste of money! Christine

My hair loss started about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I had really thick, long hair (to my waist) but on 1/1 I was tired of seeing long strands on the bathroom floor so I cut it to just below my collar bone. I had a really hard time with the haircut but figured it would be less devastating then seeing it all on the ground. Before surgery I used to lose hair pretty regularly but right before surgery I got really committed to taking my vitamins and biotin. My hair loss actually came to almost a complete stop so i figure now I am at about where I was presurgery. I am just hoping it doesn't last long.
