Discouraged
It will be 4 months on the 13th of January since my surgery. I am very disapointed with my weight loss. I have lost 50lbs. In the past 2 weeks I have lost 1 pound. Why do I have to be the slow loser, there are others who had surgery the same time and have lost a lot more. What am I doing wrong? I was happy with the holiday, I didn't gain anything, any other year I would have put on 10 pounds. I have gone down sizes but not a lot. I just hope this is going to work for me. I need to lose 150 pounds. I'm never going to get there at this rate. I'm just feeling really down today. I was looking at some of the before and after pictures and everyone looks so great. I want that to be me. Well I guess I am just feeling sorry for myself, forgive me.

Hi Carol, we are exactly the same age -- well, at least until March and then I turn 63!! It's just a number right! Just like the number on the scale. Your body is doing the best it can do. If you are following all the 'rules' you will lose weight, albeit slower, but you will lose. You may be in a slow spell right now. Don't jinx yourself and think you are a failure. I know for me I have lost about 60 some pounds since my surgery and I can count on one hand the people who have noticed!! I think since I was so overweight I have to lose about 75 lbs or more before someone says, 'hey, did you change your hair style'!!! Ha ha!! Anyway, don't be down. It will happen. Give it time. It will happen.
Be patient. Do you do any exercise? Sometimes that is the culprit. Just don't set yourself up for failure - be positive about this. YOU WILL DO IT!! Just keep saying that to yourself. And don't compare yourself to the young chicks!!
Oh, and be sure and drink all your protein, and maybe up it by one drink. More protein is supposed to help in slow losing.
Now, do you feel better!!! Also, just a hin****ch out for hidden calories in what you eat. Remember this isn't a silver bullet, just a tool. Right after surgery it was so easy I wasn't even tempted. But now the chips etc are starting to call my name and I'm like, hey, that's not supposed to happen!!
Take care Carol!!
love

Carol,
I noticed I lose more when I walk. I am a firm believer in walking. and add more protein and drink as much fluids as possible. I do not think I would have lost as fast if I didnt walk. I walk everyday. If weather permits I am outside walking if not I am on My treadmil or elliptical. I am 48 year old with CHF I force myself to walk. I noticed the neighbors are all starting to walk. I think They think they will lose weight fast like me. They dont know I had the surgery.
Best wishes
Barb
hi, I also had surgery on the 13th of september, to date I have lost 56 pounds. I thought I was a slow loser too but after talking with some folks on the main board they assured me that I was exactly normal, I started out at 265 pounds , alot of people who start out bigger lose alot faster in the beginning, even if I am a slow loser, it better than being a gainer. it will come off just be patient and eat your protien vitamins and water, happy new year.
Morning Carol...
I too am a slow loser...and if you've read my posts in the last few weeks I too have been very discouraged. I agree with another that I think it has to do with age..I am 46 and going to the gym 5 - 6 days a week and I KNOW I am doing everything right yet I stalled for 3 1/2 weeks...I didn't lose an ounce. I thought the scale was broken ()
I upped my protein a little bit and FINALLY the scale moved...only 2 pounds but it moved. Like you...my goal is to lose 150 pounds .. I started this journey at 300 pounds and have lost 65 pounds .. My surgeon tells me that muscle weighs more and since I am exercising and doing the gym I am building muscle...that's okay...my clothes sizes are going down and I feel so much healthier. I think what I needed to put into perspective was that I didn't get to 300 pounds in the course of 4 months so I can't expect to lose it all in that time frame either...You're doing GREAT! 50 pounds is ALOT of weight and you should feel soooooooo much better without it!
Try increasing your protein and your exercise and see if that helps you...but please don't get discouraged and please don't compare yourself to others (I made THAT mistake too)...you're doing this for YOU .. your body will catch up .. it HAS to! A pound lost is so much better than a pound gained!
If you would like to talk further...feel free to email me...and have a great day!
hugssss...Linda
I want to thank everyone for the encouragement. I am feeling a lot better today. I did add a protien shake to my day. I have 1 protien shake and 1 protien bar so that is bringing my protien up. I do drink at least 64 oz of water every day and I have started to exercise.
Thanks again, it really helps to get feedback from everyone.

Losing 50 pounds is well within the average range, and I'm big on the averages as you know. Yea, some of your other numbers are below averages, but not excessively. You're within two standard deviations of average for the month, and I don't think that indicates something is wrong.
Without the surgery, trying your hardest, you wouldn't have lost 50 pounds in 4 months. Remember that. And remember, it isn't coming back. You're doing great!
