What are you able/not able to eat?
My family and I went to lunch after church yesterday, and I got to wondering how much everyone is able to eat without any pain. I am not measuring my food, so I am working on "listening" to my body and trying to feel what is enough.
For example, we went to Red Lobster and I ordered shrimp scampi and stuffed mushrooms. I ate some of my caesar salad, about 5 shrimp and 2 stuffed mushrooms. At the time I thought I had eaten *way* too much, but now looking at the amounts in writing, I really don't think I did. Last night we had our traditional New Year's dinner, pork roast, collards, blackeyed peas, and rice. I only ate pork roast and collards, but I felt like I ate a lot of pork roast, but I wasn't miserable and it is probably nowhere near what I was able to eat pre-surgery.
Please let me know what amounts you are able to eat...I am curious if I am average or able to eat too much!
Thanks so much!!

I don't think I am able to stomach mayonnaise . Light or otherwise. I had fried chicken saturday night so last night we had left over . I also had ham, potato salad, deviled eggs ( hubby and son loves them) and corn. I had 3pieces of chicken wings about 2 fork fulls of potato salad. A little while later I felt like I had to throw up. Oh well...I'm still learning what I'm allowed to eat. Sometimes I can eat quite a bit other times it is only a little.

I cannot eat chicken gets stuck everytime. You ask a good question. I can eat more of certion foods. Sometimes I am afraid I am over eating also. I eat until I feel full then stop. Thats what my doctor said to do. I do not eat sweets. But I do eat the same as the family. I do not eat white food. Somedays my intake is more than other days. I just dont know if Im doing this right at times.
Happy New years

Pasta, especially spaghetti, is NOT my friend any longer...gets stuck and I almost always vomit it up.
My MIL was here for the weekend and brought cookies, etc and I par-took in a few and boy did I feel awful afterwards...
I can eat a piece of steak the size of a deck of cards...it's about 3 oz if weighed. I ate a few bites of home made mac and cheese and some fresh green beans. I was very full afterwards, but not stuffed.
Steak, for me, is the best meat. It goes down easily, stays put and I'm very satisified afterwards.
Heavy carbs, like pasta, bread, etc are not my friend any longer!

I try to 'eyeball' the total food I am planning to eat (what I put on my plate or what is served) and think in terms of my fist..that's about a cup of food. The only time I eat more than that is if I have soup or chili and then I can eat a bit more. Chicken breast and sausage (Italian) are not my friends. I have not tried the 'whites': bread, pasta, rice, etc. I eat a little steel-cut oatmeal with some cream and Splenda or eggs at breakfast, 45 min after my protein shake. I eat shrimp most anytime, other seafood is OK. I can also handle flan made with Splenda and FF evap milk and eggs....
Hope this is helpful. Let me know if you want my Crystal Light/protein shake 'recipe'...

I can pretty much eat most things. I do have a tough time with chinese food. I avoid sugar as much as possible. I find tortillas sit really heavy. Yesterday we had tamales, chili, and pozole which was great but I know it was a lot of carbs. I have a digital scale that I take with me everywhere so that I can measure out my food. My doc said to stay between 2-3 oz so I try as hard as I can to do that. I usually eat 4-5 times a day.
I had my surgery 9/13/05. I to can't eat raw veg's yet or fresh fruit. I have no problem with pasta, potatoes, shrimp, fish of any kind. I have to be very careful with chicken. Sometimes I can eat it and sometimes I can't. We usually have sauerkraut and pork for New Years. I did eat some pork and didn't have a problem, I was afraid to try the sauerkraut, so I just ate mashed potatoes and gravy. I try to measure my food, I can usually eat 3/4 cup of food at one time. When I eat soup I eat 1/2 cup and then I'll have crackers with it, sometimes with peanut butter on them. The only veg I like is beets. I can't eat cauliflower yet and no salad yet so that's about the only veg I eat. I hardley ever eat canned fruit. Over the holidays I did eat some sweets. Only a couple bites at a time and they didn't bother me. This is the first time I lost weight over the christmas holiday. That makes me feel good. Sometimes I think I am eating too much also, But then I think about what I would have eaten before the surgery and relise that I'm not eating too much.
Well good luck and Happy New Year

Hi
I can not eat chicken because it comes right back up or feels like lead in my chest and stomach.I can take 30 minutes to eat it and it still feels that way so I avoid it at all costs lol.Same goes for beef jerkey and pork chops.I can pretty much eat everything else including my favorite steak.

Interesting to see what everyone can and cant tolerate. Just shows how different we all are.
As for me, I had my surgery on Sept 14th, and ctill cannot tolerate eggs in any form,,or salad. I cannot eat chili,,but I can eat chickne with no problem, and steak, and fish. I eat soups, but cannot tolerate any kind of fat whatsoever in anything. Makes me really sick.
I usually eat about 3 ounces at a time,,,sometimes less......
