Clarification on Averages
I want to clarify a little bit on the Averages spreadsheet.
On the sheet there is a column for "Percent loss." This is calculated by dividing the participants current weight by their surgery weight. I call this the "Percent Lost" since it is based on the surgery weight.
In my personal weight loss spreadsheet, I calculate what I call the Excess Weight Loss. This is done by taken the amount to lose(in my case 207 pounds) and dividing it into the amount lost. It yeilds a higher number, and is a number often used by doctors. A successful surgery is often defined as one where the patient looses 65% of their excess weight, so the excess percentage is important.
I don't want anyone to get confused between the two percentages, but with the second method of calculation being the one often used to define "success" in the surgery, I think it is important that it be included onto the spreadsheet. It wasn't included originally because I had no way of deriving the "excess weight." We've already started including our goal weights into the spreadsheet, so it is trivial to determine both the excess and the % excess lost. So I'll add those calculations to the spreadsheet tonight when I get home.
I'm sorry if this confused anyone. And thank's to Darlene for pointing it out to me! This spreadsheet will continue to evolve over time. And I'm still open to other suggestions as to data we'd like to capture.
