Hubby is coming up on his 3 month mark, and has so far lost 97lbs. I think he is doing great I took new pictures tonight, and played around trying to get them to look good next to each other------- one work FRUSTRATING!!!! Anyway take a look. The new pictures 520lbs vs 423lbs are at the top of my profile. Darlene Hubby: 520/423/200

Thanks Em!!!! It's harder to see, just cause he still has so much to go, but the pictures help---- and the belly moving farther from the car steering wheel helps too hehehehe

He is doing fantastic! I spoke with Dr Anthone about two weeks ago who did a study on this when he was with U of C in California. He said that a good measure of weight loss is "percent of excess weight lost" rather than pounds - as it takes into account height & starting weight. He said that most people lose 25-30% of their excess weight by three months out, and your hubby is at the top of that range - at 30.3% of excess weight lost. He is right on target and at the top of his class Looking good! --BT

Thanks BT!!!!! I know, he is doing good! I told him about his %--- he thinks it is a little higher, cause he will probably only need to lose down to 220lbs, and then have the skin removed.... Im really excited for him--- I can't wait to see the scales going further down!

Can you take me through the math to figure out that percentage? Because on the Averages Listing, at 97lbs I have him at 18.7%, and if you're right and I'm wrong (which wouldn't suprise me) then I have the wrong percentage for everyone. And i'd like to make it right. Thanks!

His surgery weight was 520lbs. His goal is 200lbs.... So he needs to lose 320lbs.... He has lost 97lbs so far. 97/320 = 0.3031= 30.31% It couldnt be 18%--- he has lost almost 1/3 of what he needs to lose in total.

Ah! Gotcha! So he's lost 30.3% of his EXCESS weight, not 30.3% of his total weight. Different calcualtion althogether. In my personal weight loss spreadsheet, I track both, but on the averages I only track the total weight percentage. So we both did our math right, we're just looking at different percentages. They are linked, and if you graph them they look the same, but one is much higher than the other because it is based on far less. So in the averages sheet, his percentage is based on his current weight divided by his starting weight, which is in the 18% range. Now that people are starting to report goal weights, perhaps I can include both in the averages too. I had no way of deriving the excess weight when the spreadsheet started. I'll make a post clarifying this incase other people are as confused as I was!
