Hey everyone Hope its a happy loosing day for all.... When Hubby had surgery, his surgeon along with pain medication for home prescribes Nexium to take, to avoid stomach acid issues... I guess it helps ensure your tender newly formed tummy doesnt get hurt by stomach acid. Anyone else have something like that prescribed? Anyway..... we started finding early out, if Hubby didnt take his daily purple pill he would get bad stomach aches.... and just feel sick.... I figured it was probably something just right out of surgery.... But here he is 11-12 weeks out, and still the same.... he ran out of nexium a few days ago.... he left msg after msg for the surgeons office to see if he could get the prescription renewed, but they havent returned his calls--- yeah we are ticked off at that. Anyway today his tummy hurts something horrible, and he feels just awful--- he is living off Tum's today... Is anyone else having bad stomach acid problems after surgery??? Do you think we should be worried?

Hi Darlene, I have heard of physicians automatically prescribing things like that, and in fact I did have stomach issues (the beginning of an ulcer) so I was prescribed something. My nurse practioner said that they used to automatically do it, but don't anymore (no particular reason). I have not had any problem since I am taking my medication (and I can't remember the name, starts with a P -- I'll have to go look at it). But I take it every day and have had no problem. I was told to take it for about 3 months (and started about 6 weeks after my surgery). Prilosect -- that's it, I don't know if I spelled it right. It's also over the counter. Anyway -- I wonder if this could have anything to do with the gatoraid?? Just a thought. Oh, before my prescribtion was called in they told me to take Zantex or something like that). You can tell I hate taking pills and never can remember what the name is!! So if you haven't heard form the doctor, you might consider that. donna

If you can't get through to the doctor until next week, you can go and buy Prilosec over the counter..Nexium is the sister drug to Prilosec and has a lot of the same properties in it...at least to get something to hold you over until you can get the doctor to renew the prescription for Nexium.
