Pulling my hair out...NOT on purpose...

Hi everyone. I haven't really posted much. I had my surgery on Sept. 8, 2005. I am now a little more than 3 months out, and my hair is falling out at an alarming rate. My hair has always been on the thin side, but this is just insane. Any suggestions? I have been taking Biotin, and I have been using a shampoo for thinning hair. To no avail. Much longer at this rate and I WILL be bald. Is anyone else having this dilemma? Thanks sugery: 9/8/05 surgery weight: 328 current weight: 255 loss of 73 pounds and 64 inches

Are you getting in enough protein? -- Dee

Well, I am eating mostly only protein. Each time I eat, I eat protein first. If I have any room left, then I will eat other things. Tracy

About how many grams of protein? My nutritionist told me to get in at least 64 grams of protein a day. I usually take in between 80-90 grams a day and so far haven't had a problem with hair loss.

Hi Tracy, I have been taking 5mg of Biotin twice a day plus what I get in my multi. One thing the guy told me at the Vitamin Shoppe, get the lozange type and chew them. You actually absorb it better that way. A small bottle only costs about $5. I am actually having a lot less hair loss now than I did before surgery. I think mainly because I try to be very dedicated to getting my vitamins in. I have really long thick brown hair so when I do lose it, I notice it more on the floor than the actual loss on my head. I am really hoping I don't lose too much though. Surgery 9/21/05 Surgery Weight 300.8 Current Weight 247.3 Weight Loss 53.5 Pounds (Yes I count the decimal) Haven't kept track of the inches.

Im having the same problem and i know because i keep track that i get enought protein. 70+ a day. My doc suggest upping protein first then trying zinc. Mine is slowing down but may try the zinc too. Tammy O

Hi Tracy, unfortunately I think this is very common. It usually happens in the fourth month though. But it happens! The good news is that it will grow back. donna

You are so not alone Tracy! I think the thinner your hair is before surgery, the worse it is. I know I'm getting enough protein and this last week or so (right at 3 months) it started coming out in droves when I comb it or put it up or anything The good news is, when it stops, at about 6 months post op, it's supposed to grow back in thicker than before. I also heard that biotin and the like doesn't help at all. Beth

Tracy, I had my surgery on the 12th, and my drain is becoming a very alarming site each day!! I seem to see hair everywhere in my bathroom, and it is VERY ALARMING TO ME AS WELL! I am trying to up my protein, took 2 supps drinks/bars each day, now will try 3. I started back on the biotin, because i feel it can't hurt. I am terrified of being bald, or so thin you can see my scalp. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh!! I feel your pain.......Hope it stops soon for both our sakes!!! oxoxoxoSandy

I haven't had any problems yet (knock-on-wood) I know that there is a shampoo that you can buy that people say help alot, but I'm sorry I cannot remember the name, I would try posting on the main message board, that would be the best thing to do to get the name, I take Biotin everyday, faithfully and try to get in around 60 to 80 grams of protein everyday. I will Totally freak-out if I start to loose my hair as It is totally and completely pass my butt right now. best of luck to you, LIL'RED
