Embarassed to admitting this...
Kelly,
You really sound like you're getting on the right track. As far as your protein question, I am not an authority on the subject. However, I do know the physiology of RNY does cause a certain amount of malnutrition. Because of that, I've been very careful about my own protein intake. I aim for at least 90 grams of protein, and about 25% is pre-digested. This is the amount of protein the nutritionist told me was appropriate for my starting weight and height. I've read the info on Gina site. She makes some very valid statements about protein consumption after RNY, which is backed up by scientific research, and it's hard to argue with success, which she's most certainly had. I think you need to follow the advice of your MD. If you continue to struggle, see a nutritionist to help you build a plan that works for you. Sometimes it just takes someone to set you on the right path. If you do go the nutritionist route, find one that's experienced in baratric surgery, not all are experienced with WLS.
I hope this helps. Keep up the great work!

Hey Kelly, I would hope no one would blast you for asking that question!! Anyhow, I would like to take the positive approach and assume since you didn't mention vitamins that you are taking your vits! If so, that is great! See you are doing something right!! Also, I always feel that we are just in the 'learning' stage and it may take a few (more) months for us to get it all, but we'll do it. Now, having said that, my vote for your three 'options' is to always take your protein. I agree with Michael abou****er being important, but I think that if you take the protein in the form of a shake, you are getting some fluid, also of course a little bit from the food you are eating. I just think it's real important to get as much if not all of your protein in. NOw, I have to practice what I preach! I am totally like you - not enough water, exercise or protein!!!
Hang in there, we'll make it. Just be patient and keep trying. Don't beat yourself up.
