No weight loss week. Today I'm exactly 12 weeks out and have only lost 48 lbs. This week NOTHING..........I wanted to make 50 by today . Anyway I wanted to see if anyone else had a no weight loss week at about 12 weeks. I eat 4-6 small meals a day and never exceed 525 calories, is this too many????? Micha

I'm sure you've heard this before but it's not uncommon to have several plateaus on this journey. I know I've had several. I'll lose 5 lbs in one week then nothing for a week and a half. 525 calories isn't enough in my opinion, especially if you are working out. Our bodies are amazing machines that react in defense of starvation. If your body isn't getting enough calories, it will hoard everything trying to preserve itself from starvation. Our nutritionist likes us to get at least 800 calories and if we are working out hard, even more. My surgery was 9/19/05 and I'm down 44 lbs so I'm right there with you. I've lost 1/2 lb in a week. Also depends on how much you had to lose to begin with. I have noticed that those with more to lose and a higher BMI lost much faster. My BMI was just over 40 and I have 135 to lose.

hi Micha... you need more of a calorie intake...I get most of my calories from protein shakes...I don't actually eat a lot of food. being divorced and living alone I am not much on cooking for myself. I have to say tho...48 pounds in 12 weeks is great...I will be 12 weeks tomorrow and I'm down 55 pounds...not much more than you are. I do go to the gym 6 days/week and I have a gazelle at home that I work out on for 20 -30 mins per day (10 - 15 in the morning and at night). stalls happen...my surgeon told me that if I saw a stall to up my protein... up your calories and protein and you'll probably see a difference next week! from my experience 500 calories isn't enough. I am 2 1/2 months out and have been through to short stalls. I was only eating around 500 calories a day without realizing it. I went 2 weeks without loosing a pound after loosing a pound a day. I started counting my calories and realized how little I was getting. I started eating every 2 to three hours, just small bites of protein, about an ounce at a time. Well my weight started coming off again. Of course after the weight started coming off. My dietician told me a couple of weeks ago to drop down to 4 meals a day and no snacks so I did. The weight loss stopped. I started a couple of days ago eating small frequent meals and have droped 5 pounds in three days. I think we need those small, high protein meals to keep our bodies from thinking we are starving. I try to eat between 800-900 calories a day. It is hard because we can't hold much but with some thought it can be done.

For ten days I bounced around the same 2 lbs, then I lost 5.5lbs and stalled again for three weeks. Since THAT stall broke (Nov 10th), I've lost 17 more pounds. Stalls are completely normal.....they are your body's way of taking stock of what you're doing and determining if this is good or bad. Once it figures out you're NOT going to starve to death (at least not THIS week), it will release more water weight (what is hiding your fat loss), and you'll start seeing results again. --BT
