Anyone drinking small amt of pop/soda?
I was wondering the same thing... craving the ability to grab a "coke" and go. Last night a dinner I grabbed an unsweet tea. I know, I'm not supposed to drink with dinner, but if I don't sip during my meal I get so sick. Sick is wrong... eating without a little liquid is just painful. Anyway, the place we were at had tea but only sweet-n-lo to sweeten with. My DW hates sweet-n-lo, so I asked her if she wanted a diet coke instead.
She did, and while I was somewhat jealous I got it for her. I thought I'd kept them straight, but with those little plastic lids it can be hard to tell. I messed up and gave her the tea and me the diet coke. I took a swig.. and uhg!
Now I ADORED diet coke pre surgery. But my god that was aweful. Boy did it hit me wrong. I swapped the drinks back and she tasted it. I asked her if it was okay, and she said it was perfect. Cured me of my soda cravings completely. Yuck.
But if you like the taste after surgery, and you're craving it, and you're being smart about the quantity, I say AMEN! Drink away! We give up so much along this journy, if you can take the taste and the carbination, more power to you! Anything to make the journey more bearable is a plus to me!
I was a diet coke drinker to huge excess before my surgery. I got to the point during my pre op months that I actually said to myself, if I can't give up the coke, I can't have the surgery. Not that it was put to me black and white like that, but for me it was a test of whether I was willing to make significant changes to my lifestyle to make this work.
I gave it up, with really no big difficulty during the summer. I also put it in the category of things that made me fat. Maybe it didn't....but I have been drinking diet soda since tab came out in the 1960's and it never helped conrol my weight.
So... I turned my back and said goodbye.
I don't have any disagreement with those who've expressed the need to not be restrictive and diet minded or calling things bad or good. That makes perfect sense to me. It's just that I made that decision, it's working for me and for now I'm going to stick to it. A couple of times I've heard diet coke calling my name a little bit, but I pressed on and it really wasn't a hardship.
