I am struggling with getting enough protein in,,,so I decided beans are a good source. My question is though,,,should I count the protein,,or worry about the carbs? Are we counting good carbs versus bad carbs here?? Im a little confused. I had some healthy choice split pea soup with bacon,,not much fat. only 2 grams per serving, and 9 grams of protein. 10 carbs....Is that too much??? I need some advice here. I got real tired of chicken and turkey..needed something different. Any suggestions?? And how often does everyone eat? Some docs say every three hours,,some say an ounce or two every ninety minutes to keep your metabolism going. Im gonna go ask mine Wednesday what he thinks is the best,,right now Im like three times a day,,and not much each time. I can do more soups of course, cause its liquid. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Beans are an excellent source of protein, and they are sitting much better for me right now than most meats, so a better choice for me, too. I don't think those are the carbs you need to worry about -- the ones that cause problems are bread/potatoes/crackers/chips, that kind of stuff. Fruits/veggies/beans/whole grains are GOOD carbs, and as long as you're hitting your protein goals, very good choices. I typically eat 4X per day. My surgeon emphasized 3 meals plus a snack very early on -- because one of the things that makes it easy to fail long term is grazing (we can actually get as many calories as we did before surgery if we graze all day, they tell me). I was eating an extra snack some days for awhile, but with the amount I can eat now I don't seem to need it anymore. One trick is, for the 3-4 times per day to work, you have to eat enough, and including dense protein.
