Does it seem like eating is getting easier...

Or am I just crazy? I read that it gets dramatically better after eight weeks. Your opinions? I was dreading Thanksgiving, but it went very well. I had about 2oz of Turkey, green beans a spoonful of potatoes, a bite of dressing and I felt great! Would you also agree that with people and conversation, that you have to concentrate more on chewing, so it works out better? Usually, I am scarfing down the remainder of my egg salad because my 1 year old wants down from the highchair. I feel sick when I do that.

Nope, you're not crazy, I agree on all counts. Most things go down very easily now (sometimes I'm scared it's TOO easy ), and it's changed dramatically in just the last two weeks. Thanksgiving went way better than expected for me, too. My mother-in-law remarked on my small portion size, but that was it. I also agree emphatically that it's still easier to eat alone because I'm much more careful to take small bites, chew well, and take a break in between bites. I eat much more quickly with others, because most people eat really fast. I have to have a little talk with myself before meals with others to remind me, or suffer the consequences . It's a problem at work, too, since sometimes I'm rushed. But still better than last month, huh? Blessings to you!

I have found that to be true too! At 6 weeks I was struggling with everything I ate it seems,,then all of a sudden,,it got easier! And absolutley yes about the concentrating more when I eat with people!! I forget to eat slowly,,and it usually ends up getting stuck and I have to excuse myself for a few minutes, to remedy the situation!.I am learning though,,to pace myself,,I did great Thanksgiving. Like you, I had a couple ounces of turley, a few bites of potatoes, salad, and stuffing,,and some sugar free fat free pumpkin pie. and I was fine! That really surprised me! Ive lost 52 pounds since surgery and lots of inches,,so its working! I just gotta learn to eat slower and be patient! And its gettin easier to do that! Glad to know someone else is experiencing the same thing!

Hi Yep its easier for me too.I can eat quite a bit of soft food like cheese. I did dump on turkey not once but twice(Thursday and Friday)! :`( for some reason it didn`t like me.I even had it with no fat gravy. Yes if I am busy talking I will eat way too fast and eat way too much and will get sick. Daisys Owner

And again, yes...I'm having a much easier time with food. As long as I eat slowly and in tiny bites, it doesn't get stuck as much. Thanksgiving went well for me too. I kept within my limits on portion size and I was ok. I've been actually making healthy choices in eating out. We did pizza the other night and I ate two slices (tiny ones) and I just chewed it to death. I'm having a blast with beef these days. I get a steak and cut off about one-two ounces and chew that first and eat the veggie last. I ask to skip the carb. It worries me that I can eat bigger quantities also...but, as long as I keep it within the required weight/size, I'm doing ok. I cannot eat like I used to, that's for sure! paula

One day last week I had the munchies for the first time since surgery, I found that I could eat what I consider to be a lot of food now, but before hand would have been a warm up... I ate 1½ cups of soup! Yeah I know for shame... High protein chicken soup with low carbs and healthy stuff and I'm complaining that I ate too much because I shouldn't be able to eat that much! It just slid right down, no problems... I have to confess though that I followed the 3 bite rule (only 3 bites of a treat) on Thanksgiving and learned that I am able to tolerate sweets and sugar. I'm glad that I can have the occasional treat, but scared that I might abuse it and do myself some harm, now I have to be extra careful not to overindulge or say that I deserve those 3 bites each time I meet my protein requirement for the day... I just realized last week that food does seem to be going down alot better and I am 2 months and 2 days out. I have trouble with dry foods such as chicken but if I put gravy on it, it goes down alot better. But some of the foods sit for up to 5 to 6 hours still preventing me from eating and drinking snacks. But I can eat a ton of crackers( well maybe 4-5 crackers!) But I don't get the hard pain in my back and chest anymore which feels alot better. Connie

Nope, not easier. To get anything down, I have to take small sips of something to drink. Nothing seems to go down without some sort of liquid grease to help more it along. So I'm already breaking a big rule... drinking while eating. But if I didn't, I couldn't eat a darn thing. (Admittedly, it is NOTHING like what I used to drink while eating. Just the thought of that much liquid in 30 minutes makes me sick. I'll maybe take a fourth to a half a glass during a meal (2-4ozs))
