Hi, I would like to join also. I believe I am a slow loser and am terrified that if I don't lose enough in the first 6 months that I won't reach my goal. I have never been small so I can't imagine being small. I lost alot at first but now I feel I've slowed down alot. Connie

On the slow losers club, I think it would be quite helpful if you included information about the percentage of your body that has changed. This is a fairly simple calculation. Take your current weight, divide by your surgery weight and multiply by 100. That is the percent change in your body since surgery. This may give you a more accurate picture of your weight loss since surgery, to see if you are in line with other people. Comparing this percentage is more oranges to oranges since we all start at different places. So, I've lost 73.5lbs since surgery 10 weeks ago yesterday. But percentage wise, that's only a 17.21% change. I don't know if I consider that a slow rate or not, since it is easy to look at some of you with 36lbs losses and think I'm doing great, but then some of you weighed hundreds less than I did. In fact, if you weighed around 250lbs, and lost 36lbs, you've had a 14.4% change. Statisiticly, my less than 3% difference is insignificant. We're doing about the same. Based on nothing scientific and using just my (shrinking) gut feeling, I'd assume that anything within an 8% spread is "normal." Finding the average for a specific type of surgery would be interesting... I don't know if such a study has been done. But we can start one here. I'll gladly compile the information if you guys want me to. Maybe we can figure out who's normal, who's slow and who's fast... so we know who to send sweets too this christmas.

Michael, thanks for the info. I did it and I am at 8.7% I guess that is normal. Thanks Carol

Michael, Thanks for the info. Could you calculate my percentage of change? I must be doing something wrong because 78% of a change sounds rather drastic. 254 / 220 x 100? Well, since I dropped another couple of lbs, the percentage is 115% Can you help me?

Your math is impeccable. My skills at discribing the method is horrible. I told you wrong. Instead of dividing what you weigh today (220) by what you weighed when you had surger (254)... you should divide the difference between what you weigh today and your starting weight by the starting weight. So the formula is: (254-220)/254*100= 13.4% Sorry for the confusion,

Hi Everyone, Boy am I glad you started this thread!!! I am SOOO wanting to be a part of your club. I am right there with ya! I AM happy that I've lost some weight, but feel like a failure when it comes to comparing my weight loss to other peoples. Thanks for the support! Kelly

Oh my gosh, I read all your posts and wanted to cry!! PLEASE don't do this to yourselves!! Since when is losing 30+ lbs. in 2 months not a good thing??!! We have to do our best to follow the plan, and trust the process. I've learned soooo much from the people on this site, esp. in chat, two main things: 1) DONT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER PEOPLE - I know its hard but there are soooo many variables and every 'body' is different! And 2) Repeat after me... STALLS ARE NORMAL!! Our bodies have been through soooo much, they need time to adjust to all the changes. In the first few months, your body needs every resource to heal itself, and every so often it thinks you're starving and hangs on to the calories to use as energy. Most of us have tried and failed at dieting sooo many times, that's where our fear comes from. But you have to remember, THIS IS NOT A DIET! You have changed your life, your anatomy, what you eat and how MUCH you eat.... for good! I get frustrated because I don't see the results as quickly as I want to - but they're there! MY distorted thinking won't let me see the truth sometimes!! Let's encourage and support each other, but not buy in to the fear and judgment that it's not happening fast enough. Biiiiig hugs! Melanie
