I had surgery on 9/20 and have lost 31 lbs. I feel that my weight loss is extremely slow compared to others who have lost anywhere from 45-60 lbs since September. Don't you lose the most within the first 6 mnths? If this is the case and I am this slow, will I ever get to 50 lbs down much less lose 100? Its almost depressing even though everyone says thats great. Its very disheartening to have the surgery and still be a slow loser. Any other slow losers out there who have reached goal?

I'm right there with you...Sept 19 and I've lost 36 pounds. I get my water and protein in and I returned to the gym the week after surgery (with surgeon's blessing). It is disheartening, compared to others, but I keep reminding myself that's why I had surgery..it is very difficult for me to lose weight. With determination, we will reach our goals! Connie

Hi Ladies! My BMI was exactly 40 when I started this journey. It's hard to hear, but you will agree, it's true, that everyone WILL lose at a DIFFERENT rate. My surgeon said about 20 pounds the first month is normal for "someone my size". Folks who weigh more often lose more. ( and more quickly ) At my 2 month check-up I had lost another 15 pounds. For my 3 month check up, he wants me to lose NO MORE THAN 10 ( between my 2 month & 3 month ) or I will be losing too fast. My co-worker weighed more than me to start, and she has lost more than me. Focus on your successes and do NOT compare yourself to everyone else. YOU are doing just GREAT !!! Kym from NH

Charliss and Kym, I guess we make up the slow losers club. We started at about the same bmi so I guess that makes sense. I also keep reminding myself that perhaps we won't have such an issue with excess skin Have a happy Thanksgiving!

I feel the same way. I had surgery sept 22 & am down 33 lbs. but then I think about how it took me an entire year last year to lose 10 lbs. & I lost 33 in 2 months. so that helps me feel better. I was considered a "lightweight", so I have to remember I wont lose as quicky as my friend who had surgery about 6 weeks before me starting at 400+ lbs. I'm just trying to set personal goals & meet them....and trying not to compare with others....but I know, its so hard!! we'll all get there

At first I was feeling really good about my loss. I have lost around 60 lbs since 9/6 but now its just creeping. I cant help but feel maybe this is it!!

RNY on 09/22/05 with
Sept 22 surgery. Lost 31 pounds so far. VERY slow in my opinion. BMI started at 40 also. It is depressing to have this type of drastic surgery and not get the results that the majority of people get. Would LOVE to hear from some sllooowww losers who did actually reach goal in a reasonable amount of time. Mary

I had my surgery on Sept.14th and I have lost 42lbs.Sometime's I get to feeling bad because I feel that my weight is not coming off fast enough either but then other time's I feel ok with it and that at least I am losing so I think that in the end I will lose the weight but I want it to come off NOW!!! LOL but just be patient it is going! Tonya King pre-op 275/present day 233/goal 160

We should have a "September Slow Losers Club" to give each other reassurance that we are doing okay. Any takers? That will help me combat the depressing feelings I get after such posts as "I had my surgery two weeks ago and I've lost 50 lbs. Is that okay or am I losing too slow?". Connie

You are not alone. My surgery was 9/21/2005. I was 291lbs on the day of surgery and today I'm weighing in at 256 lbs today. 35lbs. Maybe we are normal. Enough members in this slow loser club may mean that we are more the majority vs. the minority. I'm trying to think more about the pre-op weight loss (+) in addition to the post-op weight loss. It makes me feel better to think of the total loss vs. just the post-op loss. I must admit, I'm becomming as addicted to the scale and weight loss as I was to eating. Maybe we should just not look at the scale...I may throw mine out....seriously considering it. Monique
