Scared to try on clothes
Hi All,
I know we've all been doing very well with out weight loss, etc.
I'm having this "block" about going and trying smaller pants and clothes. Especially pants. I know that I've lost almost 60 pounds and my pants I'm wearing are getting pretty big...BUT, I'm having this BLOCK in my brain where I'm petrified to try on new, smaller sizes (even just one size down) because I'm afraid that I'll have the same old disapointment with them not going up over my butt, etc.
It's the strangest fear I've ever had. BUT, I've got to get something to wear to Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I'm going to go out and try the biggest sizes first, then go down if I have to.
I was wearing 30/32 all summer long...Have been wearing the 28's I've had in my closet and they are very big right now. I've been wearing a size 26 jeans from Walmart and they are now getting loose.
Send some thoughts my way that I fit into something!
This is just not a physical operation...it's a HUGE mental one too!

Paula,
I understand your fear. I actually went to Lane Bryant to try on some clothes, but wouldn't try on pants, only tops....I'm fearful of trying on pants that they won't fit and I'll get upset. I'll move past it eventually, but right now, I'm enjoying the fact that my clothes (ususally a size 32 - 34) are looking so big on me!

I know how you feel. I haven't been shopping yet. I am still going through the sizes in my closet. I had 3x down to 22. I am in size 24 now and I will have to go shopping soon. I feel the way you do about the pants. I had two pair that I haven't been able to wear and I was so afraid to try them on. I went through my closset this past weekend and I did try both pair on and the both fit. I even tried some button down tops and they fit. I was so excited. I haven't been able to wear the one pair of blue pants since I bought them. I swear they fit in the store when I bought them but when I got home they didn't fit. I must have gained weight between the store and home. What do you think. Anyway, they fit now and I didn't think I was ever going to fit into them. I was going to go shopping for an outfit for Christmas but I'm not looking forwar to trying on clothes. I won't know what size to start with. I will probable start with the largest and go down. I don't want to try a smaller size and then have to try something bigger because it doesn't fit. That sounds crazy doesn't it. Well good luck with your shopping.

Hi Paula,
Down 60 pounds! You WILL be pleasantly surprised at what you fit into now. Go for it! I'm pulling things out of my closet too and so far about 1/2 fit... the one's that still don't give me something to look forward to. I tried on a pair of 16's...ha! Like I could get my big butt into them, but you know what? as I was pulling them up I told myself...wow...I can get my legs into them. Maybe next time I pull them out, I can get my butt into them and the next time I can zip 'em up. Baby steps. For now I will wear my 18/20 from a 24.
60 pounds is awesome! You will have to keep me posted! Every success counts! 30/32 to a 26 now even baggy - you go girl!

18s are still alitte tight. I can wear my daughters 18s. I guess they are called low risers. They fit me but I still need to lose more to look good in them. I look fine if I wear a shirt. Cant tuck a shirt in. Hips still hang over. But I like the jeans they wear today. Go for it. I try on clothes everyday. I even try my husbands pants on. Still have a ways to go.. He is a 36.
It will be nice being smaller than him
Go for it

Paula...
Girl just GO FOR IT! I'm not scared of clothing, Im now OVERWHELMED with all the choices! When I feel like Im not doing well with my WLS I try on clothing... it's an INSTANT pick me up to find I fit in large tops now. On a whim last week I tried on a size 14 skirt... it was snug but I could get it zipped I almost PASSED OUT with excitment.
Heck girl, WLS was scary.. now my credit card bills will be SCARY!
have a great TURKEY day!

I kinda feel the same way about pant's.I am still wearing the 24 pants that I was wearing bofroe surgery except for one pair of Levi's that I bought at the Goodwill a month ago that are a size 22.I tried them on yesterday and they fit.My 24 jeans are alittle roomy but I can still wear them.I was in a TIGHT 24 before surgery so that's probably why I can still wear them without a problem.I have lost 42lbs I wish that I would move with the jean size's alittle faster though. My waist is big though.

I'm still trucking my way through the stuff in my closet ranging from 20-26/28. My smallest pants are 20's and I bought new jeans on clearance for $5 in a 20 and every week or so I try them on - and every week I get a little closer to buttoning them - to me its a rush that one day soon I will be wearing them.
I keep 2 rubbermaid bins in my room - one for stuff that is now to big and one for hopefuls (stuff that I have that I will soon wear again). Don't be afraid - keep in mind - every manufacturer and cut and design fit differently. I have size 20 cords that I can wear now but my size 20 jeans are a no go. 60 lbs is significant and I think you will be pleasantly surprized at what that translates into for clothes sizes. I am down 55lbs - that is 3 pants sizes (for most pants)!! If you try on the smaller ones and they don't fit just keep in mind - its not you its those damn clothes manufactures that cant keep their sizes uniform.
Good luck,
Lynn

You are so right on the mental aspect. Including my pre-surgery weight loss, I'm down about 52 lbs, and I still look pretty much the same to me (although my son came home from college last weekend, and told me he didn't recognize me at first )
You're ready, girl, go for it! I had to go shopping pretty early, because prior to WLS I had despaired of ever losing weight, so I didn't have any clothes to work down to. First time out, I started not only one, but TWO sizes too big. What a rush! Start on the big side, but then feel good when you need to reach for the smaller sizes, instead of the other way around like it used to be!
BTW, Kohl's just had a fabulous sale, so I bought a couple of things to "shrink in to" (ie, they don't fit, or don't fit well, right now). And you know what? Even though I knew that was what I was doing, I'm still really, really depressed by those clothes hanging in my closet -- bad tapes from the old days, when the only place I was going was up. But we're not the same as we was before any longer -- just need to keep remembering that!
