Hi everyone - so here we are, all us September losers, and by now are getting into a routine of some sorts of eating, right?? Well not me. I am totally in a rut, afraid to try new things, and having trouble getting protein in. I read a post by Denise (you're a beautiful lady, by the way!!) about doing her protein supplements first, then food. That was a great suggestion and one that I hadn't been doing, which is probably why I have trouble getting in protein drinks!! So what else are you all doing? What - and when - do you eat. I know there are some creative ones out there, so please please please share your menus!! Just think - we're thinner than we were LAST turkey day!! donna

Hummous, fat-free refried beans, fish, cooked hamburger w/marinara sauce and zuchinni, laughing cow cheese lite, shredded wheat soaked in skim milk, tuna salad with lite mayo, sliced turkey from the deli, and occasionally an egg. My new favorite food: hummous! I went out of town to see family this weekend. I ate at a mexican restaurant: beans and the inside of a taco, an american restaurant: most of the grilled salmon off a sandwich and 1 TBS of mashed potatoes and Dennys: the turkey off a sandwich and a TBS or so of cottage cheese. When eating out I find veggies hard to find since I am still off raw ones. At home I like cooked carrots, green beans, cauliflower, or peas. I also tried the veggies that go in an antipasto tray: marinated roasted peppers, and mushrooms. They are soft, but still veggie like. Have a great dinner! Jeannie.

Hey Jeannie, thanks for the ideas!! Yes, I like hummus as well. I was especially interested in what you eat when you go out to restaurants. Very very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do this - I'm printing it out for future reference!! By the way, about how much are you eating at a meal now? And what are the veggies that go in an antipasto tray?? donna

Donna - I always drink my protein shakes above everything else. I get all my protein from my shakes and I take my vitamins - eating is simply a recreational activity. I know that lots of post-ops would cringe at that thought - but it is working for me. Personally, I do not even have a desire to eat real food. I do eat, of course, but very little. I will try most anything - and I am learning what will and will not work for me. With the amount of "real food" I am eating I am not concerned with calorie counts. I do watch for how many grams of sugar something contains. I really like nuts - especially almonds and cashews. I like yogurt, oatmeal, Kashi crunch and soy chips. I am addicted to sugar free popcicles. I only drink water and hot tea. I can't eat eggs or pasta at all. I will occasionally eat a cheese slice. This is just what works for me and I will continue this way until it stops working I guess. Emily 285/232/147 9/7/05

Hi emily - I'll try this again!! My computer just went blank and lost the message I was sending to you. Thanks for the tip on drinking protein first. I guess I've heard that, but need to start doing it!! Keep up the good work, whatever you're doing - you're doing right!! donna

I am one of the fortunate ones, I guess, because I have not found anything that I cannot eat. I have had steak, hamburger, roast pork loin, salmon, snow crab, chicken, turkey. Also string cheese, refried beans, FF Cottage Cheese, beets, green beans, squash, scrambled eggs with cheese, multigrain toast, oatmeal with ground flaxseed. All in small amounts however, and chew, chew, chew. I still drink one protein drink a day even though I am getting in most of my protein through food now. I don't dump on sugars (darn - I was kind of hoping for that one as a deterrent to nibbling a sweet now and then. Of course if I were to dump, I wouldn't think it was such a great thing!) I have eaten out many times and always find something to eat (1/2 chicken and cheese quesadilla with not much tortilla, soups, sandwich insides, chili, hamburger patty). I think that because I do not get sick when eating it has allowed me to be more confident in trying new foods. Good luck in your eating!

Wow Tamara - how lucky are you!!! All the good stuff. I think that is what is frustrating to me - I want it, but just can't handle it. I have not even thought about bread (the multigrain toast that you mentioned!). And how much do you consider a 'small amount'? 4 oz? That's sort of what I try for. Thanks for the response! donna

I just sent a post, well I can hardly eat, most stuff does not work, feels uncomfortable or I get overfull feeling. I eat only a few bites and am stuffed. They say take a half hour to eat well try five minutes after two bites I am stuffed. I really have only been eating soups, beans, protein bars cheese, thats about it. Whenever I try something new it makes me sick so I am afraid to try anything new, I hate that stuck feeling. Jaira

Deli slices (mostly turkey), string cheese, cracker barrel sharp cheese, chili, I made chilie verde pork the other night and it was YUMMY, soups (usually Campbell's bean & bacon), eggs (making me sick now), boneless, skinless chicken breast, rotisserie chicken, turkey, hamburger meat (lean), unsweetened yogurt, beef jerky, occasionally soy chips. I bought beans to make hummus, but then I discovered my garlic went bad, so I'll have to go shopping soon. Also, the ever-present protein shakes. I have to mix them with water or else they make me too full. I eat every 2-3 hours. My nut wants me to eat every hour, but I can't handle that. I dump sugar SUPER easy, so I really watch sugar content in recipes. I still haven't had 1 day where I've met my protein goal, but all I really eat is protein, and I do supplement. I meet my water goal everyday now though. To make chile verde pork: Take one pork loin roast, put it in crock pot. Pour 1 jar of Goya green salsa over the pork. Cook on low for about 6 hours. Shred pork into sauce, removing any visible fat. Serve with cheese and sour cream (I made burritos for my family with it). Yum!
