non-stop period??
hi everyone,
i had surgery on sept.21 and am doing ok i have lost 32#(hoping that number would have been higher) and haven't had any complications yet.
My only concern is that i have a period everyother week uggghhh!!!
has anyone else experienced this? my doc says that it's not that uncommon to have irregular periods but every other week this is getting frustrating!! i have started on birth control to see if that will help i guess because of this my iron is low so i now have iron pills to take.
Everytime i get my period my weight stalls for a week, i'm starting to think that something is wrong and that i won't loose what i should be loosing this early on because of my period...
thanks for listening

Hi Paula,
I've heard of this happening....I had the opposite happen to me. I was WAITING for my period for almost two weeks and I was miserable.
I guess surgery, anesthesia and this surgery and bypassed innards is cause for our hormones to go a bit haywire.
If it keeps up, check in with your doctor again. Make sure they keep up with the blood work and your iron counts.
Drink lots of water to flush your body out and keep from retaining water. (I know it sounds crazy, but drinking lots of water actually helps it not to retain)
And, make sure you use two forms of birth control (not just the pill) if you don't want to get pregnant. Sometimes the pill does not absorb and I've read about a lot of unexpected pregnancies. Plus, they suggest you wait at least 18 months to get pregnant.
Hang in there..I hope it gets better for you..

hi thanks for the reply. i know that i have to keep up with the water, it's not that i have a hard time with it it's just that i forget to drink as silly as that sounds..
as far as the pregnancy issue my husband had a vasectomy, so the only reason that i'm taking the birth control is for the hormones to help with the priod.
thanks again

Hi Paula,
Our bodies store our hormones in our fat cells, so as we rapidly deplete those cells of their contents, our bodies are flooded with hormones and some people don't get periods at all, others (like you and me) have them near constantly. I too have started the pill to regulate things (that and I was always irregular) but even with the pill I've had it 2 times this month. When our weight stabilizes some we will be less likely to have as many hormonal issues and will return to a "normal" cycle.
I know it's rough, and annoying, but hang in there, in the long run, a few months of irritating visits from the hormone factory are worth the health benefits from losing the weight... just keep the big picture in mind!
Hugs
Rachel
