I had my surgery 9/28 and have not gone out for dinner yet. We have a babysitter for tomorrow night and my husband wants to go out to eat and to a movie. He was thinking a place that does Japanese Hibachi. Has anony gone out at around 7 weeks and had luck? I am so worried about getting sick out! Any menu idea's would be great.

I had my surgery on 9/26 but have been having problems with eating (no stricture though). I stick to soup when we go out to eat. Egg drop soup is good. I also eat cheddar broccoli soup. I know that isnt much of a choice but that is my scenerio.... Anne-Marie

Hi Amy, I had good luck with grilled shrimp. Like Ann-Marie said soup is most always safe. Good luck and tell us how it goes Krista

Share with your husband and try things you know already. NOTHING SPICY OR SHOKING TO YOUR POUCH! If you have grilled shrimp or chicken that should be ok. Sushi might be alright if you like that kinda thing. 2 pieces would just about do it I am sure. Fish would be a good idea too. Good Luck and Enjoy your time out with your hubby. Thats whats most important. Hugs Judi

Hi, I just went out to eat for the first time last week. I ordered sirloin tips (knowing that beef agrees with me) and a crown of broccoli as my side. I ate one and one half tips and a few of the tops of the broccoli. I stopped when I felt satisified so that nothing would get sick. Shrimp is a good thing too. Just make sure you cut up your pieces into very small pieces and chew, chew, chew...put your fork down in between so that you can take your time. I did breakfast one day and it hardly looked like I ate anything. I ate most of the egg, but the corned beef hash and home fries were left and then within an hour, I ran to the bathroom with the dreaded "D". Don't know if that's a "dump" or not, but more like irritable bowel from a too fatty breakfast which I've had plenty of times before. Have a blast and let us know what you decided to have. paula

At an Italian resturant I asked for some ricotta and meat sauce... no problem With meats I have a problem, it should be rare and soft but I like my meat well done, so It is not an option for me SHrimps are good to eat out too I know I am rambling, but the thoughts are jsut poppin in my head Gail

I had my surgery on 9/27 and two weeks later had to go up to college to take blankets and jackets to my daughter who hadn't packed them back in August and was freezing. The whole family went up and we took her to a Chinese restaurant. I ordered a bowl of egg drop soup and the other 5 ordered the buffet. They brought me a bowl of soup and a bowl of noodles ( sort of a Chinese chip). While my family ate a big plate of buffet choices, I sipped at my soup. I even put a noodle on the spoon and then the soup and let it dissolve in my mouth before swallowing. My college daughter commented on how little I seemed to be eating and did I feel all right. I felt great, nursing that bowl till everyone was done with their TWO plates of food (it shocked me me to think I used to eat that way too). And I left about half the bowl because I was stuffed feeling. My family was very supportive. And Sam and I went out once last week locally and I did the same thing. I don't know if the bowl was smaller than the other restaurant or because it is so many more weeks since surgery, but I was able to eat the whole bowl by the time we left (we were there over an hour). Fill the time with conversation. But the best choice is something you feel comfortable with. Don't choose something just because you think it will go down well. If you have never tried something, a public place is not the place to experiment.

I had Kung Poa chicken and noodles (more chicken and a few noodles) two weekends ago. The resturant was asian infused california style chinese so its much healthier and lower in fat with NO msg. It was good, kind of spicy and had some peanuts for protein. I couldnt belive it though it used to be I would eat the whole thing.... and it looked like I hadnt even eaten anything off the plate when I was done.. How perspectives change lol But anyway you should just try it... i look at it as though eventually you are goign to be somewhere where you HAVE to eat and they dont ricotta cheese or yogurt ... so you should try the adventure now while your in the baby stages to see what happens.. If you stick to protein you should be fine... also with Japanese its mostly veggies and meat of some type.. Jus****ch the rice .. my surgeon said i cant eat it yet Hope I helped Steph

Hi Steph, I was just reading where you said: "Jus****ch the rice .. my surgeon said i cant eat it yet" I never got a nutritional list or any do's or don'ts of eating. So I have eaten rice (not a lot mind you) but was there a reason for not eating it? I'd totally love to know what it is. I think I will call my doctors office and ask to meet with a nutritionist if they have one. I hope I haven't done anything to damage myself *crosses fingers* I've learned so much from this site but it would be nice to actually "know" what it is my Surgeon would like for me to avoid. Thanks again for saving my butt!! Carla

Thanks everyone, we ended up at a Japanese place where they cook for you at the table, they let us split a meal (for a $5 fee). I had 2 small shrimp and 2 small pieces of cut up chicken and that was about all I could do, but it was nice to get out and I didn't get sick, which I was very worried about!
