weight loss
I had my surgery on 9/13/05. I have only lost 30 pounds. Shouldn't I be losing more? I guess I thought it would come off faster. I know I'm not eating too much. I wasn't counting calories. I was just eating what my doctor told me to eat. 1/4 cup protien, 1/4 cup of anything else. and now if I am still hungry I can add 1/4 cup of something else. I still have a problem with some meats. I made homemade beef veg soup yesterday and I thought I would be able to eat it without a problem. I took 2 bites of the meat and got that stuck feeling and pain in chest which I know now is a warning to stop. I ate the rest of the soup without a broblem as long as I didn't eat the meat. I have been drinking protien shakes every day to make up for the protien I am not getting at my meals, could that be preventing me from losing? I'm drinking my water without a problem. I am just a little disapointed in the weight loss so far. Anything else I should be doing?
Thanks for any sugestions.
Carol
I had my surgery on 9/15 and lost 28lbs by 10/15......since then, I've lost 2-4 pounds depending on day of the week & time of day. It's just a stall - they happen. No big deal. The protein shakes *may* be a problem depending on how much sugar & carbs they have, but this early out, probably not.
Are you starting to exercise yet? Now that we're six weeks out, we're clear for everything but weight lifting & ab exercises. Beef is probably going to take a while because it's a lot more work to digest it. Ground beef, like meatballs or hamburger, would probably sit better.

hey carol, you are doing great. i had my surgery the day after you and have lost about 26 lbs.
i know what you mean about the meats, it is so easy to get beef and chicken stuck where you get that pain in your chest. that happened to me twice yesterday, first in the morning with jumbo shrimp, and then in the afternoon when i tried to eat the beef strips of a tostada. both times i had to to get that feeling to go away.
also, take some measurements. i am proud of myself because according to my scale (which shows my fat percentage), i went from 49% to 39% in only 6 weeks!
Hi there!
I have had "slower" weight loss too, I had my surgery Sept 7 and have lost 33 pounds, from other posts here - it appears we are average/normal. I met a lady in my weight loss support group that is down 91 pounds in 3 months. I think that is way too fast and probably unhealthy in the long run...but some people do lose faster than others. It depends on our body makeup and metabolisms.
I know I need to get my butt busy and exercise!!! She walks several miles a day and gets a lot more water and protein than I do, plus she was much heavier to begin with. I had already been on a modified liquid diet prior to surgery for two months losing 35 pounds, a total of 68 now. I think bodies just like to fight themselves into staying at their "setpoints." Just know we WILL lose it, it's just a matter of time. We just aren't going to lose the 100 pounds in 3 months and think about your body, how much healthier it will be because of it.
In my humble opinion...

I'm seven weeks out and have only loss 38 pounds. I went to the gym every day this week and did 30 minutes on the treadmill or bike and then do another 1/2 hour to 45 minutes on the weight machines. and I'm eating right. And most of the time two bites and I can't eat any more due to the pain in the censt thing. Maybe I'm eating my two bites too fast. LOL.
so it just must be our bodies adjusting to everything. But I too, was disappointed in the weight loss so far. But then again I wanted to wake up from surgery thin.
Don't worry, the weight will come off. We're doing everything right so it has to.
good luck and keep up the good work.
