Guys in September...
I'm A guy. I had my surgery on 9/15/05. Started at 365 then got down to 330 before the surgery and now I'm at 285. I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago and promised my wife I would think about the surgery if I didn't lose the weight in 2 years. Since I didn't lose the weight, I gave it serious thought and decided it was the best option. Been thrilled so far with the weight loss but everyday since the surgery has been a struggle. Thank God for compliments, I think that's what keeps me going. I too follow the thinking of someone else who tells everyone that they had the surgery. I now know of 2 other guys who are going to the doctor's to get started on the surgery. Who knows, maybe us men will make a turnaround and start getting the ladies a run for their money.
You had surgery the Tuesday before my Monday surgery. I don't get many compliments yet... but losing 42lbs from 427 just ain't that significant. I'm sure that my co-workers will look up one day and be like "What happened to you?"
I hope us guys do. There are some fairly serious male health issues going on out there that are tied to obesity, but it seem like when you start talking about men's health you get a double whammy. One from the guys, and the other from the girls. I applaud SpikeTV's attempts.
Know what's sad? I don't get compliments either, people don't think I'm losing weight at all, no clue why they can't see it, I'm 40 lbs lighter and started at 342! I think that's more obvious than the 400 minus 40... well, a little.
Oh, my bf had this surgery 23 months ago... he's still at 280lbs (down 130 from surgery) but looks worlds better.
