Call your surgeon...you need to keep your protein down to heal. It could get serious and you will need IV fluids. paula

Are you taking anything for the nausea? Maybe some chewable Pepto Bismal? If NOTHING will stay down, not even liquids, then call your doctor and have them check you for a stricture. Not everybody gets them, but those who do seem to get them about three weeks out. --BT

Pepto Bismal has aspirin compound in it and it is not recommended for post op patients according to my booklet from my doc. FYI Denise

Hmmm - that's too bad. What does it recommend for nausea then? Might still be worth it to get some liquids in her. One dose isn't going to cause an ulcer, but dehydration can cause severe problems. I hate that you guys have to choose on stuff like that. I'm still wondering if she has a stricture. Two other people here got them right at three weeks. (This isn't something I have to worry about because I had a different surgery, and can take aspirin & other NSAIDS, so I never got the booklet you got.)

There are anti nausea medications her doc can prescribe, even a suppository if she is vomiting up everything. I agree with the others that she should RUN not walk to her doctor! But I also agree with you that one dose of Pepto may be better odds than risking dehydration - good point! Hope you get to feeling better soon! Denise

I had mild nausea the first couple of weeks after surgery, and peppermint tea worked like a charm for me plus it is a liquid so it was like a 2-for-1. But I agree with the others, you absolutely need to get advice from your surgeon because dehydration is so detrimental to us all at this stage.
