Fun things to eat!
I had my surgery on 9/20 and am at the pureed stage so I have been trying to get creative with my foods. My biggest priority is to get my protein in which I do with two protein shakes at 35 grams each so 70 total for the day. Everything else is a bonus!
1) Low fat cottage cheese with SF jam mixed in - almost like a dessert
2) Dennisons turkey chili mashed up
3) Taco bell beans with melted cheese
4) 3 oz can of chicken mashed with mayonaise and SF sweet pickel relish
5) soft scrambled egg with melted cheese
And I mix my actigal caplet into low carb yougurt which disguises the taste of the pill. Those foods above are keeping me filled up and eating protein! Just thought I would share!
Hope all is going well with my September surgery buddies!
Sounds like you are doing an amazing job with the protein. How about the water? I am doing protein shakes and water and it feels like between the two...I am drinking ALL THE TIME!! but thanks for the food suggestions. I was 4 weeks friday and am allowed food( German Surgeon demands full liquid for 4 weeks post op) so it was good to get some ideas for soft foods. Best wishes for you. J
Hi jacjac!
Water is an ongoing issue with me and I am glad that protein drinks count toward my fluid goal or I would be in trouble. I hear ya! I feel like I could float away sometimes - I wish I could develope a natural thirst - I could go days withou****er before but I know I can't now and I am so afraid of dehydration. Best wishes to you and good luck with the fluids - I'll be drinking to you tonight!
How bout this?
Chicken Paresan:
2 oz pureed chicken topped with a tsp of sauce and then 1 oz of shredded mozzarela and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
I was so hungry for it at 3 weeks out I found a way to adapt...theres no breading but then i rarley ate the breading pre-op so it didn't bother me much.
Hugs,
Shel
I'm loving 2 oz of fresh shrimp pureed w/ a bit of mayo...it's smooth and creamy and if you love shrimp, is very yummy. It's my favorite right now.
I'm getting up to 70 gms of protein a day with the food plus two drinks (either bouillion or V8) with a scoop of unflavored Unjury powder...one scoop is 20gms and you can barely taste it.
I've upped my water intake big time in the last two days because I've been feeling so tired and lightheaded and fear dehydration....so, I've gotten in about 60-70 ounces of water in...sip, sip, sipping ALL DAY LONG it seems...except for that 15 min before and 1 - 1 1/2 hrs after a meal.
I think I'm going to float away!

Hi Paula!
That shrimp sounds super tasty! Everyone says how easy shrimp is on the system and what a great source of protein so you have given me my first meal with shrimp! Yum! Can't wait! I wonder if there is a SF thousand island dressing available to mimic "Shrimp Louie" Now that might be good too! Keep up the grea****er drinking - you are doing great! Lisa
WOW! Lisa D. those sound great! I will have to try them. I just started Pureed foods yesterday, so I will be sending hubby to the store for some of these ingredients! Although, I tried the scrambled eggs yesterday and those did NOT agree with me and made me ill!!!
My problem has been that sometimes when I eat it feels like the food (full liquids & scrambled eggs) get stuck in my throat and won't go down. Does anyone else get this and if so how did you remedy this?
What is actigal?
I think that is it for now...LOL
Take care everyone!
Hi Anne-Marie!
I have heard both good and bad stories about eggs - for some reason they don't work for everyone even though they seem to be a perfect food. But I have heard you can try them a few weeks later and keep trying as the body changes how it intakes foods.
I have not had a problem with foods yet - though the denser the food, the less I eat before I get full. Like the mashed chicken with mayonainse in the can...I can only eat about a tablespoon before I feel stuffed when I can drink blended soups and protein drinks pretty easily. Everone is different so just discover what works for you and go for it!
Actigall is given to those of us who still have our gall bladder so we don't develop gallbladder stones from rapid weight loss! Have a grea day and don't forget your fluids!!! Lisa
Hi,
I can't do scrambled eggs either. Threw them right up. YUK I ordered a microwave poacher to try that.
I'm doing cottage cheese for breakfast.
Actigall is a pill that one has to take after bypass if their gall bladder is not taken out to prevent gallstones. It is very common to get them during the first six months after surgery. My gallbladder was taken out so I'm not on it. There is another med with another name that I'm not sure about.
