Not eating enough.......
I worry about the same thing too! I get 70 grams of protein with two shakes which takes care of the protein but I still need to eat more and it's hard. I probably get about 400 to 500 calories but Ineed to increase to 800...jeeez! I am pleased when I can consume 46 oz of water each day but I know I need 64 oz. I guess it is all about figuring out how to make new routines to handle all this - man, I am dealing more with thinking about food now then I did when I was a fatty!
Hey Jerzeegirl,
Really work on getting the water in - dehydration for those of us after surgery is a serious thing and can put us back in the hospital hooked up to IV's - I am not trying to scare you but I found that thought scared me enough that I make sure to get at least 46 oz of water per day - keep working on it as I know it will get better! Have a great day!
We had surgery on the same day! My requirements are:
48 ounces of fluid intake a day and
at least 65 gms of protein a day...
and that's all my surgeon wants me to count right now. He said not to worry about calories or anything else...that the protein is the most important thing in order for our staple lines to heal and for our bodies to heal and carry on.
AND...you're only two weeks post op..not 3...give yourself some slack girlfriend...you've just had major surgery and are still healing.
Are you writing everything down that you consume? It helps me SO much when I write everything in a journal and calculate at the end of day.
Or if that is hard...go to www.fitday.com it's a site where you can enter everything you eat and it calculates it for you! Very easy as long as you make sure the quantities are put in correctly.
Good luck! and try not to worry.

Hi,
Welcome to the boards. You will find that there is a lot of good information here!
I am two and a half weeks out too--My surgeon and the nurse said to make sure that I get my vitamins and minerals in--to drink at least 48 oz of water and to eat the protein(70-90 grams) that I need--I use Profect and isatone pudding to suppliment the soft foods that I can tolerate.
I see the commercials too.. but right now I am just trying to concentrate on not feeling cramps when I eat!
I love chocolate--and the only thing that bothers me are the dove chocolate cookie commercials. I never got to taste them and now it's too late!
Oh well !
How much have you lost so far? Do you feel weak or sick?
If so then call and speak to the Bariatric nurse coordinator or the nutritionist. That's what they are there for--to help you to be healthy!
Be Blessed and Be Healthy!

Hi Susan
I am also 4 weeks out and we are on the same boat. Protein shakes make me gag also. You need to find another one that does not make you gag.I tried everything. All protein shakes from GNC, Nectar al flavors, and none of them set right with me. I finally found one called Isopure Grape Frost flavor. I find it really yummy but everyone is different. Check it out at www.bariatrieating.com. It is not milk based. It does not have an aftertaste but it does smell king of funky. If you do not breath when you take a sip it should not be a problem. If you can't handle this one either go for slim fast 50% sugar (optima). It has plenty of calories so it is not recommended but if you are not eating anything or drinking proteins this is better than nothing.
I never did good on the pureed meats. The only thing that has set right for me is baked fish. Soft white fish like Tilapia. You need to get your protein otherwise your hair will thin out. Try to eat other foods with protein like cheese and eggs. soft meats like ground beef or tuna.
Let me know how you do. Otherwise check with your dietician.
