Weird Water Nausea
Hi all, I'm fairly new here. I'd found this site about one week post op, then had to go back into the hospital with an infection. I'm back now and I have a question. I'm tolerating my soft protein diet just fine: cottage cheese, lunch meat, beans, and yogurt. However, every time I even take a sip of water (which is all the time), my stomach starts hurting. Has this happened to anyone else? Before the surgery I was a major water drinker, and now I can't even take a sip. My program doesn't want us drinking anything bu****er, even flavored water, so I'm not sure what to do.
I've heard some people have trouble with water - but they usually make up for it by drinking some other type of fluid. You might try to see if changing the temperature of the water helps - either ice it down, try it room temperature, or maybe heat it up a bit so it's like tea.
If not, then talk to your surgeon and see what he recommends - perhaps popsicles, green tea, crystal light, etc. You have to have your fluids - we're flushing a lot of toxins through our bodies right now as the fat is melting, and fluid is extra important.

Hi Shannon
I'm kinda the same way. I used to drink (and love) tons of water and now I have to have it ice cold. If it's anything but ice cold, it almost hurts... I guess I'd describe it as a solid feeling in my chest. It's odd. I can have other liquids, but I'm just not into the whole kool-aid type drinks. Good luck, I hope you find something that works!
Hi Shannon,
I too have had water nausea over the last couple of weeks... I've tried cutting the water with a little sf koolaid or decaf tea and that "usually" helps. Right now, I can't even tolerate that, so I've switched to sipping hot tea and that's helping.
The "weirdest" thing for me though is the times (like today) when my protein drink makes me nauseaous... odd, because most days they are fine!
Hang in there!

Hi Shannon,
I am just like you, the pouch just isn't a fan of water and aspartame sweetners hurt like heck too. I've discovered Arizona No Carb Peach Green Tea, it's yummy and sweetned with sorbitol and it seems to go down really smoothly iced or not. Typically my pouch tolerates fluids ice cold or hot but it handles this Peach green tea just fine no matter the temp. Let me know what your thought of it is. I wish I knew why the water thing is so hard on the body though. Sometimes I just force myself to drink it because I know I should and just deal with the "stuck" feeling. Best of luck to you though!!

Hi Shannon, I also use to be a water lover, now I can't hardly get any down. I have tried different types and it doesn't matter it hurts and is nauseating. I can get a little down with ice in it. Also I can't stand artificial sweetners or protein drinks I think I am just a wimp. One of my friends said suck it up and just do it and I truely have tried and can't do it. If you get any suggestions let me know.
