Back to work?
Leslie, I also had lap RNY on 9/14 and went back to work on 10/3 (my birthday, but I told them no cake so my co-workers gave me a $135 gc to Robinson's May!). I really felt I should have taken another week off, but state disability hardly pays anything and my daughter has this annoying habit of wanting three whole meals a day LOL! So, I went back to work and for the first 3 days I worked from 7:30am to 2:30pm, and then the last two days I worked from a full day ****il 4:30pm). I had horrible back pain, though, and had to take my pain meds when I got home.

Well I hate my job, lol so I'm taking as much time off as I possibly can! ;o) I don't have bills to pay, I live with my mom and was able to pay off all my credit cards before my wls... So I understand how some people need to go back, need to make a living.
I won't go bac****il at least November 22. (My surgery was September 22) (Open BPD/DS)
My job is a desk job. No lifting, not much walking, I get a break every hour, no stress... I just hate it though. lol But I know that if I HAD to, I could go back already. I could have probably started back when I was about 14 days out. I feel pretty good. No pain meds, no weird side effects, etc.
For now,
Amanda!
My surgery was on 09/26/05 and I was back to work on 10/03/05. I took it pretty easy the first few days and if I started to get tired or hurt, I went home. I have a desk job, so it was pretty easy for me to do. I got my drain tube out on Wednesday and that was the point when I started to feel MUCH better and worked full days on Thursday and Friday. My company said I could take as much time as I needed, but I can't sit still for that long. I think that returning to work has helped me get back into a routine.
My surgery was on 9/26 and I returned to work on 10/3. I work for a sole practitioner atty, so I could not stay out any longer than that. I think coming back so soon helped me to not sit at home and sulk over not being able to eat what I wanted. My mother had the surgery on the same day as I and is having a harder time of recovery and has not returned to work. I take a rest at lunch time and that seems to help me make it through the afternoon.
Good Luck with your decision.

Hi Mary, I don't want to scare you but I had my surgery on 9/19 open rny and I still don't feel strong enough to go back to work. I am very tired and still have quite a bit of pain. My stomach hurts even drinking water. Also I have a lot of nausea. I go back to the Dr. Friday. After reading all the replys you have to your post I am thinking either I am a big wimp or something is wrong.
