Help? Can someone tell me what lactose intolerance is?
OK, I am now offically three weeks post op lap ryn and for the first ten days had no problems with protien shakes and getting enough water. Now this week Monday, I returned to work half days and am having a difficult time dealing with protein shakes.. I get nauseated everytime I drink them. Could this be lactose intolerance and if so is there a pill I can take? Thanks, Jacjac
What a coincidence ! Last night, I asked myself the same question.
I mix my protein powder with 8 oz Simply Smart skim milk. I started milk again on my 8th day post op. No problems. Now, I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op, starting to add solid proteins back into my diet, and my tummy feels nauseous everytime I drink these silly protein shakes! I asked myself if I was drinking too fast, becoming lactose intolerant, or what ?!?!.
Who's got some advice for JacJac and myself ???
Thank you!
Kym from NH
Hi:
I am now 5 weeks post op lap rny and I developed the same problem 2 weeks after my surgery. Now, I mix Unjury plain protein with crystal light(pink lemonade or strwberry Kiwi) and I tolerate it very well. I was using lactaid fat free milk but it still made me sick. Hope this helps a little.

we REALLY need the protein shakes ... have you tried the nectar ones that are mixed with water? these can be bought online at www.bariatriceating.com .. some of them are a little too sweet but if you water them down a little they aren't too bad. Or you could get yourself the unflavored protein powder at www.unjury.com and put that into anything you're eating..that will help you get your protein in. if you're drinking crystal light you can put a 1/4 scoop into each glass and you won't even notice that it's there. I have spent a ton of money trying to find protein shakes that I can tolerate. So far the Unjury Chocolate and unflavored have been the best for me. I also like the GNC brand called Amplify..they come in a few different flavors. Bariatric eating has a great sample pack that you can buy and try every flavor they sell..I find that drinking the fruit flavored ones breaks up my day too...give them a try!
Please don't give up on getting your protein in...it's what will help you lose weight.
Good luck!!

Jacjac,
My doc won't let us have milk, period end of report. There is quite a bit of sugar in it. FF or not. The label on the FF in my fridge says 13gm...
So I have mixed my protien with everything else I can think of.
I mixed my unflavored unjury with diet splash yummy can't even tell it is there.
I figure this is for life so I mix em up and drink em....sometimes they are not the best tasting but I drink and just don't worry about them. I love the strawberry sorbet from unjury and I like the bananna cream from GNC
I think it is a matter of just keep trying them out.
But if you think it is the milk try different options, something will not make your tummy upset...
good luck
