something new for me!
wow 3.5 post op and I FINALLY got the energy and exhilaration to walk...I've been walking a little around my neighborhood every day or every other day or when the mood hit me...but today I woke up and said..I'm going to do it..so today right after work I took myself to the track behind the jr high school and walked around it 2x..that's 1/2 mile...now I know that doesn't sound like much but for me it's amazing...my knees didn't hurt, I wasn't out of breath...I felt and feel great! so it's 2x for the next 2 days and then I'll increase to 3x on Friday for a few days...I am almost excited to get up to a mile (lol) .. oh did I mention that b4 the surgery I HATED to walk anywhere? now I am actually enjoying it...unbelievable!
That's fantastic! I'm not yet to that point. I've done a bunch of casual walking, but still have a lot of exhaustion. I've got a treadmill here at my complex that I can use, so I'll probably start that next week.
To be able to walk without pain - that's excellent. Certainly makes exercise more palatable when it doens't hurt, doesn't it?
from what I've been told...the treadmill is great to use...it's more gentle on your joints. I have one in my livingroom (yes right in the livingroom lol) but I prefer to walk outside..especially now that the weather is a little cooler. I started walking the neighborhood but didn't know how far I was going so now I've switched to the track. I love the fact that I can walk, come home and not have to sit down...I can actually do something around the house...it's an amazing feeling!
I've lost 22 lbs since surgery...I have been at a stall for 1.5 weeks now and as depressing as that is I know I need to keep doing what I'm supposed to be doing...all total since I've started this journey I've lost 41 pounds (19 pre-op)..My knees and feet weren't hurting within days after the surgery...I had forgotten they hurt until one moment when my daughter said...how are your knees mom? I thought about it and said...wow they don't hurt!
you don't need to walk too much...just walk a little bit to get your blood moving...it seems to make a lot of difference
